Description

Dancing Villagers

Villagers that dance. Place one, right-click it, and pick from 38 dances β€” rave, disco, headbang, moonwalk, breaking, twerk, the Macarena, the YMCA, a waltz, ballet and plenty more.

They are real villagers to look at. Same model, same textures, same profession coats and badges the game draws on an ordinary villager. They just have no AI, no trades and nowhere to be.

Getting started

Item Recipe
Dancing Villager An emerald on top, a jukebox in the middle with leather either side, and redstone in the two bottom corners

It's in the Dancing Villagers tab of the creative menu as well.

Place it like an armour stand β€” it lands on the block you clicked, turned to face you, already dancing. Right-click it to open its screen.

Picking a dance

38 of them, in seven sections:

Chill Stand Still, Idle, Head Bop, Sway
Club Dance, Rave, Techno, Disco, Shuffle, Hands Up, Pogo
Street Grime, Hip Hop, Breaking, Moonwalk, Robot, Twerk, Dab
Rock Headbang, Air Guitar, Mosh, Rock Out
Party Floss, Macarena, YMCA, Gangnam, Sprinkler, Chicken, Conga, Clap, Star Jump
Classic Waltz, Charleston, Twist, Salsa, Ballet
Vocal Crooner, Rap, Opera

There's a live preview of that villager on the left of the screen, so you can see a dance before you leave it on. Drag the preview to spin it round.

Dressing it up

The Style tab does the rest, on the same screen:

  • Type β€” plains, desert, jungle, savanna, snow, swamp or taiga. Types other mods add show up here too.
  • Job β€” all fifteen villager jobs, nitwit included, each with its proper coat.
  • Badge β€” novice through master: stone, iron, gold, emerald, diamond.
  • Baby β€” half size, same as a baby villager.
  • Mic β€” a microphone in its right hand. The three Vocal dances are built around it.
  • Speed β€” 0.25x up to 2x.
  • Offset β€” shifts this one along its dance (see below).
  • Face Me and the arrows β€” point it wherever you want.
  • Random Villager β€” rolls a new type, job and badge.

Crowds

Dances run off world time, so everyone sees the same frame and a row of villagers on the same dance stays perfectly in step.

That's the look you want for a chorus line. When you'd rather they didn't move as one block, nudge each one along with the Offset slider and the line ripples instead.

Good to know

  • For Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. You don't need any other mods.
  • It needs to be installed on the server and on everyone's game.
  • Hit one twice in quick succession to pick it back up (once in creative). Nothing else can touch them β€” no mobs, no fire, no TNT β€” so a dance floor stays put.
  • Name tags work on them.
  • They have no AI at all, so a room full of them costs the server nothing.
  • You're welcome to use it in modpacks.
