About

Description

Fill your dungeons with monsters worth fearing.

Dungeon Denizens adds a hand-crafted roster of classical fantasy monsters to Minecraft — skeletons and their elemental kin, floating beholderkin, creeping oozes, shadows, orcs, gargoyles, mimics, and more. Each creature has its own model, behavior, and abilities, and spawns naturally in the biomes and depths where it belongs. The main inspiration is the tabletop-fantasy tradition and playing Ultima IV & V back in the day.

⚙️ Requires

Dungeon Denizens 2.0+ (Minecraft 1.20.1) requires two companion mods:

  • gottsch's Monster Manual (GMM) — the shared mob framework (base classes, AI goals, models, and textures) that DD's monsters are built on, so the same creatures can be reused across mods.
  • GottschCore — gottsch's shared library.

Install all three together. (Earlier standalone versions of Dungeon Denizens require only GottschCore.)

🐉 The Bestiary

Over forty monsters, grouped by family:

  • Skeletons — Skeleton Warrior, Winged Skeleton, Iron Skeleton, Magma Skeleton, Frost Skeleton, Tainted Skeleton, Acid Skeleton, Electric Skeleton, Burning Skeleton, Bloody Bones, and the shield-bearing Skeleton Champion who rallies the rest.
  • Beholderkin — the Beholder, the undead Death Tyrant, the lesser Gazer, and the harmless-looking Spectator, each casting from a suite of eye-spells.
  • Undead — Grave Zombie, Bloater, Wight, Bodak, and the demonic Daemon.
  • Shadows — the Shadow and its master the Shadowlord, vulnerable only to gold and to their own shadow-forged blades.
  • Orcs — the Orc, rock-throwing brutes, and the spellcasting Orc Shaman.
  • Oozes & fungal horrors — Gelatinous Cube, Ochre Jelly, Gray Ooze, Violet Fungus, and the alarm-raising Shrieker.
  • Gargoyles — the winged Gargoyle and the cave-skimming Margoyle.
  • Constructs & ambushers — Animated Armor, Animated Weapon, Wood Golem, and Chest & Barrel Mimics.
  • Beasts — Ghoul, Sewer Ghoul, Rat, Alligator Gar, Boulder, and the Headless.

Full stats, spawn conditions, and abilities for every monster live on the wiki.

✨ Features

  • Every monster is individually configurable — toggle any mob on or off and tune its behavior to taste.
  • Data-driven spawning — each monster's spawn rules (open sky, darkness, height range, biome) are set through data files, so pack authors can retune them without touching code.
  • A spawn egg for every mob — the whole bestiary is available from the Dungeon Denizens creative tab for building and testing.
  • In-game guide book — a Dungeon Denizens Guide item that links straight out to the online bestiary, so documentation stays current without cluttering the game.
  • Optional Treasure2 integration — with Treasure2 installed, Dungeon Denizens loot is mixed into its chests.
  • Biomes O' Plenty support.
  • Custom weapons — including the shadow-forged Shadow Blade and Shadow Falchion, which strike Shadowspawn where nothing else can.
