Engulfing Darkness
A mod that brings some of the challenge from games like Don't Starve
Standing in the dark for too long will limit your vision and then eventually kill you.
It is heavily recommended that you play with this mod alongside other mods such as True Darkness, Realistic Torches, or Fragile Torches.
Dynamic Lighting is finally supported (Kinda).
Introducing a new mechanic called "Burnout" (V3.1.2+)
When holding items with the "Light Bringer" tag, a meter will appear on the top of your screen indicating the items Fuel, when the meter is emptied out, a single item is destroyed (this can lead to certain effects depending on the item.)
The rate items burn away from darkness depends on a few factors, such as the item in question, if it is raining, or if you are submerged in water, and a few more factors.
Note: Burnout ONLY applies to items in your hand or offhand, you don't have to worry about the darkness destroying placed torches.
This doesn't technically support client side lighting itself, so something like DRG flares or an item that doesn't have the Light Bringer tag wont work (A good example, some DL mods allow glowstone dust to light the area up, however that is deliberately not in the mod by default.)
Any item can be added to the configuration file for ED, so if you want glowstone dust to work for example, you can make it work with the configs. I have tried my absolute hardest to make sure this mod plays nicely with other mods, and is easy enough for modpack creators to implement cleanly.
The reason DL support was done this way is to ensure the mod doesn't become "obsolete" less than 5 minutes because of how easy it is to get a single torch, the burnout mechanic aims to have the mod be a looming threat that you constantly need to account for.
Regarding future updates:
I figured I would put out an update to... well updates on the mod so people aren't left wondering if it will be updated for future versions or previous versions, there are not currently any plans to update the mod further due to circumstances out of our control, though I (Doctor Rogue) will at some point have it moved to a new page for future development. However at the time it is not really in my scope, though if you are interested in working on it, you can reach out to me to talk about it.
If you plan on porting it, please let me know in advance.
Huge thanks to @chipplays on Fiverr for creating many icons used in the mod, such as the art for the thumbnail, and many of the potion effect icons. (And for being a really nice and patient guy).
