This mod completely rethinks explosions in Minecraft, making them incredibly realistic and dynamic. Enjoy unique explosion sounds that change depending on the distance and environment, tangible shockwaves and concussions, as well as realistic visual effects, including plasma sparks and fire clouds. Experience the true destructive power of explosions like never before!
Disclaimer
The Explosion Overhaul mod features intense and highly realistic explosion effects, including powerful sound design and immersive visual effects. These elements may be overwhelming for some users, potentially causing discomfort, stress, or sensitivity issues — especially for those sensitive to loud noises or strong visual stimuli.
Please use the mod with caution, particularly in environments where sudden loud sounds or intense visual effects could cause discomfort or unintended reactions.
REQUIRES: Cloth Config API, GeckoLib

Concussion:
is a complex simulation of shock that dynamically alters the perception of the world depending on the explosion's power, distance, environmental conditions, and the player's state. It is not a simple effect or a fixed timer — the mechanic works in stages, has phases, variable intensity, and adapts to the circumstances of the explosion. Hearing is disrupted, a ringing in the ears and muffled sounds appear, the camera loses stability, swaying and blurring of vision occur, and the heartbeat reacts to stress, injuries, and adrenaline, intensifying disorientation. In open spaces, in confined caves, behind obstacles, or at the very epicenter — the consequences are always different. This is not "temporary deafness," but a full-fledged system of shock effects, created so that every explosion is felt physically, heavily, and truly.
Functionality as of 0.2.3.0 beta:
Dynamic Sound
- The sound of an explosion now depends on the distance: from a deafening roar up close to a distant, muffled echo, up to 5 kilometers!
- The environment matters! An explosion in a cave will echo loudly, while if you are inside a house, you will only hear a muffled rumble from outside.
- Power matters! A weak creeper explosion and the detonation of a huge amount of TNT will sound completely different.
- Sound travels at a realistic speed, so you will first see the flash, and only then will the sound wave reach you.
- 7 Power Tiers: Explosions are categorized into 7 distinct power levels, each with unique audio characteristics ranging from small creeper blasts to apocalyptic detonations.
- Ambient Sound System: Optional background explosion sounds create immersive battlefield atmosphere, even when no explosions are visible. Includes single explosions, chain reactions, and artillery shelling scenarios.
- Multi-Range Sound Pools: Dedicated sound variations for close (≤50m), medium (≤500m), far (≤1000m), and super-far (≤5000m) distances with environmental modifiers.
Visual Effects
- Forget about standard puffs of smoke! Now every explosion is a spectacular, dynamically expanding fireball that fills the space.
- Bright sparks fly from the epicenter, and the fireball itself gradually cools, turning into thick smoke.
- Electrical Line Sparks: Electrical discharge effects radiate from explosion centers with adjustable density.
- Atmospheric Effects: Ground dust clouds and mist effects.
- Dynamic Flash: Screen flash effect that scales with explosion power, distance, and visibility
Tangible Impact on the World
- Camera Shake: Feel the shockwave! The screen will shake from powerful explosions, and the effect is stronger if you are in an enclosed space.
- Cave-ins: Powerful underground explosions will cause the ceiling to tremble, throwing down dust, rocks, and dripstones.
- Power Surges: The shockwave can temporarily disrupt the power grid. Nearby Redstone lamps will begin to flicker and spark unpredictably.
- New Destruction: Explosion craters now look more realistic, with scattered debris and displaced earth around the crater's edges.
- Glass breaking and dripstone falling in caves. Explosions will now shatter glass blocks and cause pointed dripstone to fall.
- Advanced Camera Shake: Intensity scales with distance, power, and environment (stronger in caves).
- Player Push Effects: Physical knockback in enclosed spaces, synchronized with camera shake for enhanced immersion.
- Environmental Reactions: Shockwaves shatter glass blocks, cause pointed dripstone to fall, and trigger Redstone lamp flickering with realistic timing.
- Explosion Clustering: Nearby explosives merge into single, more powerful detonations for realistic chain reactions.
- Concussion (Concussion System):
Low-Pass Effect: Temporary hearing loss ("deafness") caused by extreme sound pressure.
Tinnitus: A characteristic ringing in the ears after a nearby explosion.
Blur: Temporary visual blurring due to a shock state. - And many other features as well
Explosion Overhaul is designed to work with most popular military mods "out of the box." Here's the current status of deeper integration and testing:
Mod Compatibility Status
-
✅ TaCZ (100%): Full integration. All explosions from weapons and vehicles use our mod's system.
-
👍 SuperB Warfare (99%): Near-perfect compatibility. The vast majority of explosions are handled by the mod.
-
👍 Big Cannons (99%): Partial compatibility. Basic projectile explosions are supported, but more complex types might use vanilla mechanics.
-
🟠 Warrium (40%): Partial compatibility. Some explosions are handled. BUT DON'T EXPLODE THE ATOMIC BOMB
Superb Warfare (AshVehicle addon):

Frequent Game Crash Causes
WARNING! Explosions >50 power may be unstable, please take this into account
If you are experiencing crashes or issues launching the game, please check the following:
- Incorrect Forge Version. Make sure you are using Forge version 47.4.0. Other versions may be incompatible and cause crashes.
- Using OptiFine. Instead of OptiFine, we recommend using Oculus + Embeddium. OptiFine often conflicts with other mods, whereas Oculus and Embeddium provide better compatibility and performance.
- Incompatibility with Other Mods. If you are adding other mods, check them for compatibility. Some mods can conflict with each other, leading to crashes. Try running the game without additional mods to identify the source of the problem.

🛠️ Troubleshooting / Frequent Crash Causes
⚠️ WARNING: Explosions with power >50 may be unstable. Please take this into account.
If you are experiencing crashes or issues launching the game, check the following:
- Incorrect Forge Version — use Forge 47.4.0 exactly. Other versions may cause crashes.
- Using OptiFine — replace OptiFine with Oculus + Embeddium. OptiFine conflicts with many mods.
