Furnace Mastery

Your vanilla furnace finally grows with you — and travels with you. Furnace Mastery turns the plain Furnace, Blast Furnace, and Smoker into a progression system: each one earns Mastery XP, levels from 1 to 10, and unlocks faster, more fuel-efficient smelting per block. It adds no new blocks, textures, or recipes and reuses the vanilla furnaces you already have, so you can drop it into an ongoing world with nothing to rebuild — and when you break a furnace, its level, XP, counters, lock, and banked XP come with it to wherever you place it next. Speed boosts finish recipes sooner without using more fuel per item (faster, never cheaper), and your existing hopper smeltery keeps working and levels up just the same.

Features

  • Mastery Leveling (Lv 1–10) — Every completed recipe grants Mastery XP, scaled by cook time, complexity, and a rhythm bonus for keeping the furnace busy; discovering a new recipe family grants a bonus.
  • Thermal Overdrive — Cook speed +5% (Lv 2), +8% (Lv 5), +12% (Lv 6). The boost scales fuel consumption by the same factor, so items-per-fuel stays constant.
  • Fuel Efficiency — Fuel lasts +10% (Lv 3), +20% (Lv 10). The only ability that changes items-per-fuel.
  • Heat Retention — A stalled furnace pauses fuel burn instead of burning while idle: 10s window (Lv 4), 20s (Lv 8). Refuel within the window and cooking resumes.
  • Thermal Momentum (Furnace, Lv 5) — Repeating the same recipe family builds a streak: +1% speed per streak, up to +20%. Stacks with Overdrive; switching families halves it, idle decays it.
  • Refining (Blast Furnace, Lv 5) — Every 6th smelt of the same material yields a bonus ingot (every 7th for rare outputs like gold). Counters persist and advance under hopper automation.
  • Perfect Cooking (Smoker, Lv 5) — Every 6th eligible food is Perfectly Cooked: +1 hunger, +10% extra saturation gain, and a subtle glint.
  • Recipe Lock (Lv 7 / Lv 9) — Lock a furnace's input to a specific item so automation can't insert the wrong thing; at Lv 9, configure 3 whitelist/blacklist filters via a read-only panel (keybind while looking at the furnace).
  • Stored XP & Retrieval — Furnaces bank Minecraft XP up to a full 30 levels; press the retrieve keybind while looking at one to collect it into your experience bar.
  • In-Screen HUD — Level, XP bar, rhythm, heat-retention countdown, momentum streak, refining/perfect progress, lock status, stored XP, and active abilities.
  • Per-Block Persistence — Break it, pick it up, place it somewhere new: everything you've earned comes along. Only transient streaks like Thermal Momentum reset.

Side: Client and Server — install on both sides (mastery state is tracked server-side and synced to the client).

Installation

  1. Install the appropriate mod loader for your Minecraft version (Fabric or Forge).
  2. Download Furnace Mastery from this page.
  3. Place the .jar file in your .minecraft/mods/ folder.
  4. Download and place the required dependencies for your loader in the same folder.
  5. Launch Minecraft and start smelting!

FAQ

Q: Can I include this in a modpack? A: Yes — Furnace Mastery is MIT licensed.

Q: Does this work on servers? A: Yes, install on both client and server.

Q: Do the speed boosts waste more fuel? A: No. Overdrive and Momentum finish recipes sooner but burn fuel proportionally, so items-per-fuel stays exactly the same. Fuel Efficiency is the only ability that changes items-per-fuel, and it makes fuel last longer.

Q: Is it safe to add to an existing world? A: Yes. No new blocks, items, recipes, or fuel types — it only enhances the vanilla furnaces you already have.

What's next: Furnace Mastery 2.0.0

A bigger edition — Furnace Mastery 2.0.0 — is in development and planned for release in about a month. It extends the progression to 15 levels with more abilities (Heat Retention Mastery, Smart Filtering, Complete Mastery, and more).
