Description
Bounty Hunter
Your XP has made you a target.
Bounty Hunter adds a new pillager hunter that begins stalking you once you reach XP level 21. The stronger you become, the more of them come. They spawn nearby, pathfind toward you, open wooden doors, and never teleport or follow you across dimensions. They are persistent, and they remember their owner.
Features
- XP-driven hunters — one hunter per two levels above 20, capped at 12 per player.
- Relentless pursuit — hunters target their owner, reacquire them when lost, and can open wooden doors. They do not teleport.
- Persistent pressure — existing hunters remain if you drop below level 21, die, log out, change dimensions, or enter creative/spectator mode. Missing hunters catch up at up to two spawns per second.
- Meaningful loot — max-level enchanted books, emeralds, netherite scrap, and XP.
- Looting support — direct melee kills with Looting improve book and netherite chances and increase emerald drops.
- Configurable — tune spawn thresholds, hunter stats, spawn distance, and drop rates in `config/bounty_hunter.json`.
- Vanilla-friendly look — uses the vanilla pillager model, texture, and crossbow AI.
How it works
At XP level 21, the first hunter appears. Every two levels above 20 adds another, up to 12 per player. Hunters spawn 24–48 blocks away in a valid space, then make their way toward you. They are persistent and will not despawn naturally. If their owner is unavailable, they wait.
Loot
Each hunter drops:
- A single max-level enchanted book with a 20% base chance, up to 50% with Looting III
- 1–3 emeralds, with Looting increasing the amount up to 1–6
- One netherite scrap with a 10% base chance, up to 25% with Looting III
- 5 XP
Books contain exactly one enchantment at its maximum level, including curses. Projectile kills count as Looting 0. The held crossbow and vanilla pillager loot are suppressed.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5+
- Fabric API 0.163.0+26.3
- Java 25
Installation
1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.3.
2. Place Fabric API and `bounty_hunter-0.1.0.jar` in your `mods` folder.
3. For multiplayer, install the mod on both the server and clients.
Configuration
The mod creates `config/bounty_hunter.json` on first launch. Malformed configs fall back to defaults. Restart the game or server after changing settings.
Notes
- Designed for survival. It can be punishing if you ignore the hunters.
- The first release uses the vanilla pillager appearance.
- Lightweight and mixin-free.
