About

Description

This mod allows you to use banners to control your pets and minimize their micromanagement!

This idea is greatly influenced by several mods (most now very outdated), including Shincolle, Kindred Legacy, Lovely Robot, Tactical Frame (this one isn't even on curse), Lycanites Mobs, and Callable Horses.

Right click a pet owned by you to add it to the banner's squad. Squads are separated by the banner's base color. You cannot add another player's squad member to your own team, but you can freely swap around any of your squad members to any squad under your control.

Squad members gain the following properties:

- They will move or teleport to you when you attack an entity with their squad banner, or get hit while holding their banner. Squads only check the base banner color, so feel free to decorate them as you please!
- Squads will semi-intelligently spread out to attack multiple enemies, prioritizing those you hit, so you can disperse or concentrate your forces by attacking different mobs, or the same mob repeatedly.

- They will be dismissed when you sneak for more than 3 seconds while holding their squad banner. While dismissed, they are tucked away safely in the astral realm and waiting for you to re-summon them at any time.
- They can be ordered to guard an area by right-clicking a banner of their squad color with an empty hand, so you can set up choke points, have different squads stationed in different areas, or just chill with your cats. They will prioritize attacking and following you again if you carry their banner and attack/get attacked.

- They will be automatically dismissed if you log off, change dimensions, or die. Your wolf can no longer die while you're offline!

- Actually, your wolf can't technically die at all. Upon taking fatal damage, they will instead be automatically dismissed and left to recover in the astral realm. If their killer is revenge killed, they will revive with full health after 60 seconds. If they died to an environmental hazard, they'll come right back after 60 seconds, no need to revenge kill nature itself. You can also skip this process by sleeping on a bed.
- You can check on their health and resurrection status by right-clicking air while holding a banner in your main hand.

Currently squads work with any entity that implements OwnableEntity (in vanilla: wolf, cat, parrot). There isn't any technical difficulty associated with adding other entities, other than how one would check that they're friendly and willing to be summoned (villager squad for on-the-go trading?). Also note that squad members don't magically become loyal to you, so they'll still behave how they normally do. It's just less heartbreaking to see your pet dog die when you know he's going to come back.
