Recruits QoL is an addon mod for the Recruits mod on Forge 1.20.1. It adds quality-of-life commands, map helpers, recruit behavior fixes, training support, mounted unit improvements, and claim management tools while leaving the base Recruits mod files untouched.

Requirements

  • Minecraft Forge 1.20.1
  • Java 17
  • Recruits mod installed
  • Server and client should both have this addon installed for client-side map and command features

Features

Training Bottles

Experience bottles can now be used to train individual recruits. Throwing experience bottles at a recruit gives that recruit progress toward leveling up. By default, 32 XP bottles equal 1 recruit level, this affects only the recruit that is hit or closest to the bottle impact. It does not level all nearby recruits.

Lost Recruit Map Markers

Owned recruits that are far away and have not been seen by their owner for a while can appear on the Recruits map, when recruits are considered lost, their owner sees an iron sword icon on the Recruits map with a number showing how many recruits are grouped at that location.

This is owner-only. Other players do not see your lost recruit markers, also the marker will not appear if the server restarts until that recruit is rendered again.

Recruit Water Floating

Recruits no longer drown helplessly in water, when a recruit is in water, the addon helps keep them afloat and refreshes their air supply so they have a much better chance of surviving.

Captain Behavior Improvements

Captains receive fixes intended to reduce cases where they ignore orders, get stuck, or fail to engage properly. The addon helps captains recover from invalid combat/patrol states and can retarget hostile entities when they are in aggressive mode, though it still has bugs.

Group Commands

Group Training Command Use:/recruitsqol train <group_name> This sends all recruits in the named group into a training behavior:

  • Sets them to neutral
  • Makes them wander freely
  • Makes them target the nearest armor stand when one is nearby This is useful for training setups where recruits attack armor stands.

Group Mount Command Use:/recruitsqol mount <group_name> This makes recruits in the named group attempt to mount the nearest valid mountable entity, such as a horse, if they are not already mounted.

Mass Recruit Command Use:/recruitsqol massrecruit <unit_type> <group_name> Supported unit types:

  • recruit
  • bowman
  • crossbowman
  • shieldman
  • horseman
  • nomad Example:/recruitsqol massrecruit bowman Archers

The command searches nearby unowned hireable units of the selected type, checks that you have enough recruit slots and currency, then recruits them into the chosen group. The command uses the Recruits mod's normal hiring logic and currency system.

Horse Armor Support

  • If a recruit has horse armor in their inventory and mounts a horse without armor, they will automatically equip the horse armor.
  • If the recruit has an upkeep chest and does not already have horse armor in their inventory, they can pull horse armor from the upkeep chest.

Bulk Claim Extension The Recruits map supports selecting multiple connected chunks when extending an existing claim. How to use:

  1. Open the Recruits map.
  2. Hold Ctrl.
  3. Left-click connected chunks to select them.
  4. Valid chunks are shown with a blue outline.
  5. Invalid chunks are shown with a red outline.
  6. Press Ctrl + Enter to claim all selected chunks at once.
  7. Press Esc to clear the selection. The server validates the claim request before applying it. Validation includes:
  • Only multiple chunks connected to already existing claim can be made.
  • The chunks must be connected.
  • The chunks must be unclaimed.
  • The chunks must be valid for the claim owner.
  • The player must have permission to edit the claim.
  • The player must be close enough.
  • The claim must not exceed the max claim size.
  • The player must have enough currency.

Disconnected Claim Cleanup

  • If a claim is split by removing a chunk from the middle, disconnected claim pieces are automatically removed (to prevent data corruption).
  • The connected part containing the claim center is kept. Detached extensions are deleted so claims cannot remain split into separate islands.

Low Passage Sneaking

  • Recruits can automatically crouch when they are blocked by a low passage and there is a possible path through by sneaking.
  • This helps recruits move through spaces like slab-topped tunnels.

Version 1.1 Added features
-Added a command "/recruitsqol charge on/off" which lets mounted units go attack and then come back after 10 seconds automatically then you can send them to charge again.

-Recruits egg in creative now store all levelled up data like HP, experience etc.

-Added a set addition to hp on each level up rather than randomized numbers so you dont end up with 2 soldiers on same level with very different max hp (configurable).
