🌋 Sensory Survival — Diegetic Nature's Tell & Audio-Visual Cues
Sensory Survival transforms your Minecraft survival experience into an immersive, atmospheric world where nature gives you subtle physical and acoustic clues before danger strikes.
Instead of relying on immersion-breaking HUD overlays, minimap radars, or guesswork strip-mining, Sensory Survival introduces authentic in-world sensory feedback: rock walls hiss and seep steam when lava is near, striking stone reverberates with harmonic musical chimes when ore veins are buried deep within, unstable gravel ceilings groan with crumbling dust, and vibrations in the Deep Dark create visible sonar ripple waves across ancient stone floors!
✨ Core Diegetic Mechanics
🔥 1. Lava Seepage (Thermal Tells)
Mining blindly into a lethal lava pocket is one of the most frustrating experiences in Minecraft. With Sensory Survival, stone blocks (Stone, Deepslate, Tuff, Blackstone, Basalt, etc.) located within 2 to 3 blocks of a lava pool exhibit physical heat transfer tells:
- Visual Cue: Faint rising steam vapor and glowing molten embers (
DRIPPING_LAVA/SMOKE) seep through the rock face exposed to air. - Acoustic Cue: A subtle, atmospheric sizzling and crackling sound (
LAVA_POP) warns careful miners before they swing their pickaxe.
💎 2. Ore Resonance (Acoustic Harmonic Prospecting)
Tapping or striking a solid stone wall (Left-Click) sends acoustic soundwaves deep into the rock structure. If an ore vein is hidden within 4 blocks behind the wall face, it echoes back a distinct harmonic chime tuned to the mineral type:
- Ancient Debris: Deep resonating gong (
0.55pitch). - Diamond Ore: Bright crystalline harmonic chime (
1.85pitch). - Emerald Ore: Pristine bell ring (
1.70pitch). - Gold Ore: Rich metallic bell tone (
1.35pitch). - Iron Ore: Crisp resonant clink (
1.20pitch). - Copper Ore: Warm metallic chime (
0.95pitch). - Redstone & Lapis: Mystical humming resonance (
1.25 – 1.40pitch). - Coal Ore: Deep echoing solid tap (
0.75pitch).
*Includes a delicate burst of glimmering resonance particles converging toward the ore vein, and an anti-spam cooldown.*
👁️ 3. Acoustic Shockwaves (Deep Dark Sonar Ripples)
Inside the Deep Dark biome or near Sculk clusters, sound is palpable:
- Walking, sprinting, jumping, or landing produces visible circular sonar ripples (
SCULK_SOUL) expanding across the cavern floor around your footsteps. - Stealth Mechanic: Sneaking completely dampens vibration shockwaves, mirroring vanilla sculk sensor physics.
- Visually teaches players how noise propagates through the stone before an accidental warden awakening!
⚠️ 4. Instability Creak (Suspended Gravity Blocks)
Floating, unsupported gravel or sand ceilings are ticking time-bombs:
- Detects suspended gravity blocks (Gravel, Sand, Concrete Powder) with open air or liquid underneath.
- Emits crumbling dust trickles falling from beneath the ceiling and an ominous stone creak (
GRAVEL_STEPat0.55pitch), signaling an imminent cave-in hazard.
📊 Diegetic Features Matrix
| Feature | Trigger Condition | Visual Feedback | Audio Feedback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lava Seepage | Stone ≤ 3 blocks from lava | Steam vapor & orange embers | Soft sizzling & crackle |
| Ore Resonance | Striking rock with hidden ore within 4 blocks | Magical shimmering glint particles | Tuned harmonic musical chimes |
| Acoustic Shockwaves | Walking/sprinting in Deep Dark | Concentric sonar ripple rings on floor | Faint vibration reverberation |
| Instability Creak | Unsupported floating sand/gravel nearby | Trickling dust crumbs falling from ceiling | Low crumbling stone creak |
⚙️ Lightweight & Fully Configurable
Sensory Survival uses a background periodic scanner with negligible CPU overhead (≤ 0.02ms per player tick). Every feature can be customized or toggled via config file (sensory_survival.json):
enableLavaSeepage(default:true)lavaDetectionRadius(default:3)enableOreResonance(default:true)oreResonanceRadius(default:4)enableAcousticShockwaves(default:true)enableInstabilityCreak(default:true)scanIntervalTicks(default:20/ 1 second)soundVolumeMultiplier(default:1.0)
