About
Description
Stealth and Detection changes how hostile mobs notice you. Light, distance, line of sight, and your actions affect detection. Watch the indicator above an enemy's head to see when it starts getting suspicious.
Stay out of sight
Use cover and darker routes to avoid being spotted. If an enemy loses you, it can search before giving up. Awareness indicators show suspicion building toward an alert, so you can tell when it's time to move.
Mind the noise
Running, landing, breaking blocks, and opening doors or containers can draw attention. Sneaking removes footstep noise, but other actions can still give you away. Walls and their materials reduce how far sounds carry.
Throw a snowball or egg to draw an idle enemy toward the impact. It investigates the sound's location without automatically knowing where you are. Enemies already in combat won't abandon their target just because something lands nearby.
Read the tracks
Nearby creatures leave footprints that fade over time. Hold the middle mouse button for 0.8 seconds to enter Focus and highlight visible tracks. Release it to return to normal. You can rebind Focus in Controls and turn off its grayscale effect while keeping the highlights.
Footprints are local visual trails from nearby loaded creatures. They aren't saved as a permanent history, and mobs don't use them to track you.
Setup
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.20 or newer within the 47.x series, and Java 17.
- Install the mod on both the client and the server when playing multiplayer.
- Works on its own. Epic Fight, GeckoLib, and The Assassin's Oath are not required.
The full detection system applies to hostile mobs. Neutral and friendly mobs keep their usual behavior and show a brief reaction indicator when attacked. Modpacks can adjust which mobs use the system through data packs.
Client settings cover indicator size and placement, footprints, and Focus. Server settings control sound detection and muffling. There is also an interface for other mods to add equipment stealth values and custom sound sources.
Alpha
This is an early version. Detection balance and interactions with other mods may change. If you run into a problem, include your mod list, what happened, and the steps needed to reproduce it.
