Description
SY Dungeon builds its dungeons the way vanilla builds villages and trial chambers: from hand-made pieces that the game's own jigsaw generation joins together. Nothing is laid out the same way twice, and every wall is cracked and mossed differently.
It is built around one idea: you should be able to reach the end of the game by exploring, not by farming and mining. Beds and torches come out of chests. Obsidian, flint and steel, an enchanting table, eyes of ender — each is the guaranteed reward of a particular dungeon, and each dungeon has exactly one thing that only it gives.
The overworld: ten large dungeons
⛓️ The Prison — forests and plains
A small stone-brick shelter on the surface with a ladder going down. Two or three shafts deep you land in the hub, and the maze starts: passages, crossroads and stairs on a seven-block grid, several levels deep, dark enough that things spawn in it. Iron-barred cells line the corridors with a chest behind the bars — break them if you want what is inside. One corridor leads somewhere else: a hall three times the size of anything else, five trial spawners, and the Warden of the Cells on a zombie horse. Beat him and every player who fought is paid an enchanted diamond weapon, tool or piece of armour.
🏜️ The Great Pyramid — deserts
Ninety-one blocks across and forty-six high, a real forty-five degree sandstone pyramid. Through the door on its north face is a nine-by-nine maze of sandstone cells; in the middle of it a well, and a ladder up through the ceiling that puts you in the middle of the burial chamber floor with the pharaoh and four spawners around you. There is no door to back out of. Win and you get fourteen obsidian, flint and steel, and an enchanted diamond piece — a nether portal and an enchanting table, handed over. Above the chamber's ceiling is one more room with an enchanted golden apple in it.
No pressure plates, no tripwires: mobs do not care whose foot it is, and a trap in a dungeon full of spawners goes off long before you arrive. What is left is danger that needs no trigger — husks buried in sand, and suspicious sand you brush out yourself.
🗼 The Wizard's Tower — taiga
A round tower, twenty-nine blocks across and eight floors high. Each floor is nine rooms of seven blocks, and the stair up stands in a different room on every floor, so every floor has to be crossed to find it. Junctions have spawners in them; dead ends have chests.
Some floors are a room short. Somewhere on them is a room with no doors at all — from the corridor it looks like a doorway that has been bricked up, and the only way in is to notice and dig.
Behind one door on the fourth floor is the library: shelves floor to ceiling and an enchanting table with exactly the fifteen that level thirty needs. On the eighth is the sanctum, the archmage, and a nether portal frame he never lit. Beating him pays out four eyes of ender and a totem of undying.
🧪 The Witch's Swamp — swamps and mangroves
A village on stilts over the water, planks and railings and lanterns, boardwalks running out from a great hut in the middle with a smaller one on the end of each. Some hold a chest; some hold a witch and a boiling cauldron. Through the hatch in the great hut's floor a ladder drops through the water into a mud-brick brewery, and three corridors past that is the Mother of the Swamp on an island in a flooded hall. Winning gives you a brewing stand, eight nether wart and four blaze powder — brewing, opened before you ever see the nether, and the only place in the game this mod gives it.
❄️ The Ice Fortress — snow
A castle forty-nine blocks across on the snow line: a curtain wall round a courtyard, a tower at each corner, a keep in the middle and a gate on the west. Stairs run up from the courtyard onto the wall, so the whole ring can be walked, and every tower has a stray shooting down from it. The keep has three floors — a hall with a hearth and an armoury, a barracks with beds, and the watch on top. The hole in the hall's floor drops twenty-eight blocks into deepslate ice cellars: pools of powder snow that swallow you without leather boots, floors of blue ice you cannot stop on, a polar bear behind one door. Three corridors in is the Frost Lord, and beating him pays out an enchanted diamond piece of armour and a Frost Walker II book — an enchantment no table will ever give you.
🗿 The Temple Swallowed by Vines — jungles
A stepped ziggurat sixty-three blocks across, five terraces of mossy stone with the jungle growing back over it. A grand stair climbs the south face to a shrine on the summit, which is given away to anyone willing to walk up the outside. The door is on the north, and through it is a maze; in the middle of the maze a well, and the well goes two ways - down into flowing water channels, and up into the hall of the Illusionist Priest, a mob vanilla itself never uses. The ladder arrives in the middle of his floor, with the spawners already round you. Beating him pays an enchanted diamond weapon and a Fortune III book.
No pressure plates here either. What is left is infested stone that has to be mined, suspicious gravel that has to be brushed, and a treasury behind an iron door with a lever - a mob can tread on a plate, but it cannot throw a switch.
🏕️ The Warlord's Camp — savannas and badlands
A palisade of standing logs forty-nine blocks across, a watchtower at each corner with a pillager shooting down from it, camp fires and supply chests in the yard, and a longhouse in the middle with the war table in it. The hole in the longhouse floor drops twenty-one blocks into timbered workings: drifts propped with fence posts, a roof that came down long ago, suspicious gravel - and a ravager in an iron cage, which is a choice rather than a trap, because nothing but a player breaks iron bars on purpose. Three corridors in is the Warlord, and he pays out a crossbow with multishot or piercing, ominous bottles, emeralds and two sentry armour trim templates. The bottles are how a vanilla trial chamber is opened ominously, and this is the only place the mod gives them.
⚰️ The Cursed Graveyard — dark forests and pale gardens
A ruined chapel with the plots spreading out from it - headstones, a grave someone dug and never filled, little stone tombs, pale dead trees with a creaking heart in the trunk - and a single panel of iron railing wherever a row runs out. The hole in the chapel floor drops twenty-eight blocks into an ossuary cut out of the rock: sealed coffins, soul soil that slows you to a walk, bone shelves. Three corridors in is the Horseman Captain, and beating him gives a Mending book and a saddle - with a stable of tame skeleton horses standing in his hall, still there when the fight is over. Mending is a treasure enchantment: no enchanting table will ever give you one, and in this mod nowhere else will either.
⛏️ The Dwarven Hall — peaks and windswept hills
A deepslate gatehouse with a great arch, and that door is the only part of it in daylight. The shaft in its floor drops forty-two blocks before the hall begins, because a mountain is the steepest ground in the game and a dungeon that sprawls across one ends up standing on stilts. Down there: forges with anvils and troughs of lava set flush with the floor, drifts laid with mine cart rail and timbered with spruce, and a chasm with lava at the bottom whose span narrows to a single block in the middle. The ore is in solid rock and a pick is the only way into it - which is the one thing a wandering mob cannot do on your behalf. Three corridors in is the Forge King with a diamond axe, his smiths are pick-carrying zombies and breezes, and beating him pays out an efficiency IV, unbreaking III diamond pickaxe or axe, two armour trim templates and an anvil.
🌊 The Sunken Lighthouse — beaches and stony shores
A broken tower on the sand, climbable to the lamp room at the top where two sea lanterns sit in a ring of weathered copper. The hole in its floor drops twenty-one blocks to a dry sump, and the hole in that floor has the sea two blocks below the lip. You jump in and swim down into a prismarine fortress that is full of water: guardians, drowned with tridents, kelp growing from the floor, a soul sand bubble column that carries you up, a sponge room with dry sponges in the chest. The boss hall is drained to head height - six courses of sea and air above them - so the Deep Sentinel can be fought at the surface. He gives up a trident with loyalty or riptide, and the heart of the sea. Every chest's first roll can be water breathing, because down there that is not a consumable, it is the ticket in.
The Nether: three
🔥 The Blaze Fortress — nether wastes, basalt deltas
Nether brick and blackstone over a moat of lava, with bridges across it and blazes on the spires. Wither skeletons hold the inside. Three corridors in is the Lord of Flame, and he pays out eight blaze rods and a wither skeleton skull — eight rods is sixteen powder, so two trips fills the twelve eyes of ender, and the skull is there if you ever want the other boss vanilla has.
🪙 The Piglin Vault — crimson and warped forests
Blackstone and gold underground, laid out in cages and strongrooms. Mine the gold and the piglins turn on you. Beating the Vaultkeeper gives four netherite scrap and a netherite upgrade smithing template, and this is the only source of netherite in the mod: one piece of gear upgraded per vault cleared.
💀 The Soul Sanctum — soul sand valley
Soul soil, bone blocks and soul lanterns burning blue. The sand holds your feet and the fire burns what stands in it. The Voice of the Sanctum gives up a Soul Speed III book and an enchanted golden apple. There are no ghasts in the boss hall on purpose — a fireball takes the hall apart while you are still in it.
The End: two
🌌 The Void Spire — end highlands, after the dragon
Purpur and end stone brick standing over the void, and the only dungeon in the mod that goes up instead of down. Shulkers levitate you off the walkway; one gap can only be crossed with a pearl. At the top, the Heart of the Spire pays out an elytra and two shulker shells — the end of travel, and the start of shulker boxes.
🟣 The Chorus Labyrinth — end midlands
A maze of end stone among the chorus stalks with no roof on it: the void is simply there beside you, and eating chorus fruit puts you somewhere else. A pack of endermen guards sixteen ender pearls, guaranteed. The boss hall alone is roofed — an enderman that teleports out of the fight is one the trial spawner will wait for forever.
The small ones: twelve
Ten minutes each. No boss, and what they hand over is what you actually need on the first night — a bed, torches, food, and enough iron to keep moving. If the big dungeons are a day out, these are the hole you fall into on the way.
⛩️ The Mountain Shrine — cherry groves
No boss, and nothing in it is hostile - no trial spawner, no mob spawner, not one. Four paved paths run out through the blossom under torii gates, past benches, gardens and a hot spring, and where they meet is a walled court with a plinth seven blocks high and a shrine on top of it. The chest on the altar holds six ender pearls and eight bottles of experience, guaranteed. That is the only place in this mod where a chest hands over progression, and it is allowed because the shrine asks nothing of you in return. Inside the plinth is a cellar with no way in at all - the only clue is that the plinth is wider than the shrine standing on it.
🍄 The Mycelium Hollow — mushroom fields
The small one. A hole in the mycelium ringed by four huge mushrooms, a short ladder, and a burrow lit by glow lichen. Nothing down there will hurt you. A mooshroom pen and a camp with two beds are both guaranteed to generate, and the chests hold bowls, stew and a bed. Ten minutes, no boss, no signature reward - what it gives you is somewhere to stop.
The other ten come out of one machine wearing different skins. Whether it is a well or a cairn, the inside is the same short maze; what changes is what it is built of and what lives in it.
| Dungeon | Where | What lives in it |
|---|---|---|
| The Hidden Well | plains, forests, birch, meadow | zombies |
| The Tomb Under the Sand | desert | husks |
| The Hunter's Cabin | the three taigas | skeletons |
| The Cairn in the Snow | the six snowy biomes | strays |
| The Dry Well | savannas and badlands | husks |
| The Store Under the Vines | the three jungles | cave spiders |
| The Forester's Cellar | dark forest, pale garden | zombie villagers |
| The Flooded Store | swamps and mangroves | drowned |
| The Mossy Burrow | lush caves | cave spiders |
| The Dripstone Burrow | dripstone caves | skeletons |
The last two have nothing at all on the surface — a single room set in the rock, found by digging into it.
Between them the mod covers forty-two of the forty-four overworld land biomes, all five of the Nether's, and both large End islands.
📦 What the chests hold
Every chest's first roll is survival kit — a bed, torches, food, coal — because a dungeon this dark eats torches and there is no farm to sleep beside. The rest is iron, gold, books, the occasional diamond. No diamond gear in any chest. That is what the bosses are for.
🛠️ Shapes you can change without code
Every piece is a structure-block save. Build a better crossroads in creative, save it under the same name, and the mod's tooling holds it against the one it replaces — same size, same jigsaws, doorways still open — before it goes in. The rules that join the pieces, the loot, the spawner waves and the weathering are all data-pack JSON. The tower you are walking through was drawn by hand in a creative world, floor by floor.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.2
- NeoForge 26.2.0.88
- Java 25
- No other mods required. Works on dedicated servers.
Before you uninstall
Dungeons are ordinary vanilla blocks and stay standing. The only thing this mod registers is a structure type, so a world opened without it keeps every dungeon that already exists and simply stops generating new ones.
