Tepox Sniffer Update

Tepox Sniffer Update expands the vanilla Sniffer and turns it into a useful companion without replacing its original behavior.

Sniffers can be tamed, equipped with armor and accessories, used for storage, ridden, and switched between different behavior modes. The mod is designed to keep the Sniffer feeling close to vanilla while giving it more utility during exploration.

Taming

Sniffers can be tamed using Prehistoric Soup.

Once tamed, the Sniffer becomes linked to its owner and its maximum health increases to 100 HP. It is also fully healed when it is first tamed.

Prehistoric Soup can also be used later to heal an injured Sniffer.

A tamed Sniffer can protect its owner from nearby hostile mobs and from players that attack its owner.

When you tame a Sniffer, its health will increase to 100 points.

Behavior Modes

Tamed Sniffers have two behavior modes that can be changed from their inventory screen.

Follow

The Sniffer follows its owner and tries to stay nearby while traveling.

Free

The Sniffer stops following its owner and returns to its normal vanilla wandering behavior.

This mode does not make the Sniffer sit or stay completely still.

Sniffer Armor

Tamed Sniffers can equip special armor that provides additional protection.

Iron Sniffer Armor

A basic and affordable armor tier that provides good protection for early-game exploration.

Golden Sniffer Armor

A lighter protection option made with gold. It offers less defense than iron but provides another equipment choice for your Sniffer.

Diamond Sniffer Armor

A high-tier armor set that provides strong protection and is useful for dangerous exploration and combat.

Netherite Sniffer Armor

The highest armor tier available.

Netherite Sniffer Armor is obtained by upgrading Diamond Sniffer Armor in a smithing table using a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template and a Netherite Ingot.

Riding the Sniffer

Adult tamed Sniffers can be ridden after equipping a Sniffer Mount.

While mounted, the player can directly control the Sniffer and travel at a steady movement speed. The Sniffer can also step over normal one-block terrain while being ridden.

Sneaking allows the player to dismount normally.

Charge Attack

While riding a Sniffer, the jump control is replaced with a powerful charge attack.

The Sniffer quickly rushes forward and deals 20 damage to enemies it hits.

The charge has a 2 second cooldown, so it cannot be used continuously.

Sniffer Chest

The Sniffer Chest gives your companion a large portable inventory.

When equipped, it unlocks 81 storage slots, arranged as a 9×9 inventory.

The chest cannot be removed while items are still stored inside, preventing items from being accidentally lost.

Sniffer Lantern

The Sniffer Lantern adds a hanging lantern to the Sniffer.

The lantern has a small physics-based swinging animation that reacts to the Sniffer's movement and direction.

When LambDynamicLights is installed, the lantern can also produce dynamic light while equipped.

LambDynamicLights is completely optional and is not required to use the rest of the mod, but to get the lantern functionality, you will need to have LambDynamicLights installed

Sniffer Mount

The Sniffer Mount allows an adult tamed Sniffer to be ridden.

It provides the saddle and riding equipment needed to control the Sniffer, explore the world, and use its charge attack.

Sniffer Inventory

Sneak and interact with your tamed Sniffer to open its custom inventory.

From this menu you can manage its armor, chest, lantern and mount, access the chest storage, and switch between Follow and Free mode.
