Description

description_56dc64aa-91f1-497f-b460-4febba9049aa.png

This mod adds a persistent horror entity that exists fully server-side while having client-side effects to create an intense, immersive stalking experience in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

It is recommended to play in multiplayer to maximize the horror aspect of the mod. (DEDICATED SERVERS DO NOT WORK)

The entity actively tracks players over time, observing from a distance before closing in. Its behavior is not scripted to specific locations and will adapt to player movement, ensuring encounters feel real and unpredictable.

The Idol isn't meant to be an "in your face" type mod and is meant for longer playthroughs, but when He appears, you'll know it. The entity takes a while to spawn, so if you wish you can change its spawnrate with the /the_idol_config command.

WARNING!
If you wish to play the mod on VR, make sure to bind the GUIs to the head, not the arm! Otherwise it'll look weird having a jumpscare on your arm.
Some events might also not work on VR.
Nothing I can do about these issues sadly.

The entity uses a stage system. The current stage determines the entity's behaviour and how active it is.

Some events are client-side, meaning only the targetted player can see the entity.

Various unique encounters.

ITEMS:

The mod adds multiple items to aid in surviving the entity:

EMF reader:
Using the EMF reader, you can determine the entity's stage. The higher the EMF, the more deadly The Idol becomes.
(You can use any kind of dye!)

EMF recipe

Spirit Box:

Using the Spirit Box, you can locate the entity when it's spawned in. There are unique answers for every situation you're in. Although, he will not respond if he's not spawned in your world.
(Note: Only responds to "Where are you?")

Spirit Box recipe

Polaroid:

Using the Polaroid you can stun The Idol when it's chasing you. But be warned: using it too much can anger the entity and result in certain doom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you port to 1.19.2/(insert other version)?
No,
I am not able to port to any other versions due to plugin limitations.

The Idol's hands keep appearing on my screen and killing me. How can I avoid this?

For this event you need to close your eyes. (Check keybinds)

Is it a dweller mod?
No,
It is not a dweller mod. It has its own events, sounds, AI, mechanics, etc.

Is there a config?
Yes,
there is a config. Use the /the_idol_config command to access it.

About the config:
- The config json file will appear in the “config“ folder named “theidolv“. You can also access and config the mod using the “/the_idol_config“ command. The setting you put will save across all worlds and, if you wish to include the mod in a modpack, you can upload the config settings alongside the modpack incase you want to disable something.
In multiplayer - The config settings will be the host’s, the only setting that will be client side is the “background“ toggle. The host is determined by the first player that joins the world. Only the host can access the config, other people will be able to open the “client config“ that just has the background toggle.
