Walkie-Chat adds proximity-based text chat to Minecraft, making distance matter during conversations.

Players can normally send and receive messages only when they are close enough to each other, adding more immersion to survival worlds, multiplayer servers, RPGs and adventure modpacks.

For long-distance communication, players can use the Walkie-Talkie.

• Walkie-Talkie

The Walkie-Talkie allows players to communicate from farther away through frequency channels.

As long as both players are using a Walkie-Talkie and are tuned to the same frequency, they can continue talking even when they are outside the normal proximity-chat range.

Crafting Recipe

• Using the Walkie-Talkie

1. Hold the Walkie-Talkie in your hand.
2. Right-click to open its frequency menu.
3. Choose a frequency channel.
4. Make sure the other player is tuned to the same frequency.
5. Keep the Walkie-Talkie in hand and send a message in chat.

Players using matching frequencies can communicate over long distances.

• Configuration

Server administrators can change the normal proximity-chat range with:

/walkietalkie setrange <value>

Default proximity range: 35 blocks

This allows servers and modpacks to adjust how close players need to be for regular chat.

• Compatibility

Fabric builds require Fabric API.

Walkie-Chat is designed for multiplayer and focuses entirely on improving Minecraft's text-chat experience.

Walkie-Chat – Proximity Text Chat Mod

Walkie-Chat is a simple mod that adds a proximity-based chat system to Minecraft.
With this mod, players can only send and receive messages in the game chat when they are near each other — bringing a new level of immersion to survival, multiplayer, and RPG servers.

To help with long-distance communication, the mod also adds a special "Walkie Talkie" item that allows players to chat from anywhere, as long as both are tuned to the same frequency.

• This mod is fully focused on improving the in-game text chat experience.

• Recommended for adventure or survival ModPacks.

How to use the Walkie Talkie:

• Hold the Walkie Talkie item in your hand

• Right-click to open the frequency menu

• Set the frequency channel in the menu

• Both players must be on the same frequency to communicate over long distances

• Talk in chat while holding the item.

• You can set the proximity chat distance using the command:

/walkietalkie setrange <value>   default is: 35
