Description

One weather for the whole world, chosen by the season and built up slowly, like real weather. Weather Director decides what the sky does. Better Clouds, Particle Rain and Distant Horizons play it out.

Ten weathers

Clear, fair, cloudy, overcast, mist, fog, drizzle, rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms. Clouds come first, the rain starts once they are thick, and it clears the same way.

One sky for everyone

The whole overworld shares the same weather, the same wind and the same drifting clouds. Weather follows fronts, and each one lasts from a few minutes to an hour.

Weather you can hear

Real recorded wind that follows the same one wind as the clouds and the rain: silent in calm air, a breeze that comes and goes, roaring and howling in a thunderstorm, stronger up on the mountains. It knows where you are: full in the open, duller under a roof, quiet and muffled indoors, silent in caves. Rain sounds follow the rain: drizzle is soft, heavy rain is loud, and indoors rain and thunder are quieter. Thunder comes after the flash, later the further away the strike.

Seasons decide

With Ecliptic Seasons, spring brings showers, summer storms, autumn fog and winter snow. Morning fog and mist roll in at dawn and lift again.

Fog you can walk through

Mist lies light and white over lakes. Fog is dense and grey on the land. Fly up into a rain cloud and the world disappears, climb above it and the rain stops.

All optional. Without them the weather still changes, only plainer. Set UseSolarWeather = false in Ecliptic Seasons so its own weather stays out of the way.

Server and client

Needed on the server. Optional on the client: players without it join fine and see vanilla rain at the right strength.

Commands

/wd shows the weather, /wd set <weather> [minutes] [now] switches it, /wd next rolls the next one, /wd reload reloads the config, /wd wind <km/h> holds the wind for testing (/wd wind auto releases it).

Settings

Every player can tune clouds, skies, wind, ground fog, view fog and the wind sound under Mods, Weather Director, Config. The vanilla Particles and Clouds settings are respected.

Light on performance

About 0.02 % of the server and under 1 % of a frame, measured on a full modpack.
