This is easily one of the most polished modpacks out there. The RPG Series of mods just works so well and gives the player many different choices and you're not locked to a specific class! Personally this pack shines in the multiplayer department, specifically when playing with a small group of friends. The classes all work in tandem to deliver one of the best dungeon crawler experiences Minecraft can have. Quests are ok and the progression is well made however one of the only things I have to mention which are not so good is the structures; Having so many structures the world struggles to make them appear closer to each other which makes some quests be literally incompletable in a no-cheat run, but I understand that it's not really something you can fix.

Personally i love exploration but when it's done good, it's not that it's difficult to traverse the world only using a glider but since there is A LOT of blocks the player needs to travel why not add some interesting ways to navigate?

So my final thoughts would be:

  • Great diversified CO-OP combat experience
  • Great Performance

but

  • Some unreachable or really hard to find structures
  • Only combat focused (might be what you're looking for though)

Overview

I should mention I have worked on this pack with Daedelus before, Providing feedback as well as contributing some of the Datapack and Scripts used, This review will however be as honest as possible.

This review was written for the 1.21.1 release of the pack which differs significantly from the 1.20.1 version of the pack.

Since the 2.0 release of this pack and the complete overhaul for 1.21.1 Dungeon Heroes has become one of the best group focused RPG packs available, While this pack is aimed at group play offering a selection of Dungeon and Dragons/World of Warcraft themed classes to play as, each aimed at supporting each other its also completely possible to play solo. The spells and combat are the highlight of the pack with the pack being by the same creator as the RPG Series and Spell Engine mods, The same core as packs like Prominence 2.

Rather than a overwhelming amount of content for the player to explore the pack offers a quality over quantity style of approach with well integrated items, loot, structures and mobs. There is a progression focus quest tree available that least players through a exploration focused journey to explore the content available in the pack and ultimately leading them to collect various eyes from unique structures to eventually make there way to the End and the Dragon fight.

The largest problem this pack has is the requirement to find structures to progress the quest line, While for some more common structures this caused little issues there are a small number of structures that can spawn 20k+ blocks from spawn and can be rather difficult to get to.

Pros

  • Quality over Quantity
  • Custom Farmers Delight Integrations (Meals off RPG Buffs)
  • Easy to follow Quest Tree
  • Custom Skill Tree for each Class
  • Great Performance
  • Incredible Group Synergy

Cons

  • With the pack requiring structures to progress and some of these being rare or hard to find this can sometimes make progression difficult
  • Resource packs could use some organisation
  • Can sometimes feel limiting when playing alone
  • Lack of a unique gui, quest menu resource pack or theme

I pick this one due to my friend want some magic / adventure pack that not too complex or overpower. (We just got a bad taste after finish 'Dragonfyre')

Oh my, one of a pack that performance is very questionable. I let it load for like 1 minute and tps / lag spike not even stable. Most non vanilla+ pack will already stable at around 30+ seconds.
I may run other game while doing so, but in my defense. Other pack run just fine and I even run more of same game / program in the background while doing so... so yes, very questionable performance.

I usually drop in modpack to see the content, check the key craft to see how it goes. It's vanilla+ as advertise which is good. But the quest require you to follow step by step to reveal the next one is quite ... not fit for 'my' minecraft style of free-explore I think. It's may work better with progression lock pack like Prodigium (which don't do this either)

Hope other get better experience than mine.

💡 Tips for play

The playthrough is mostly guided, follow the quest book to not get lost. :)

Play:

  • Set game difficulty to at least medium
  • Team up with fellow players, both ways, /team for sharing some xp, and /ftbteams for sharing quest objectives
  • Early dungeons can be challenging, gear up for battles properly (like the quest says)
  • You can take early residence in the tavern of your village
  • At least 1 team member is recommended to choose a heavily armored class (paladin or warrior)
  • 3rd Person view is nicely playable, and helpful for many players in open fields
  • Spell scrolls provide faster spell unlocks
  • Dungeon loot is stronger than crafted gear
  • Skill Tree points can be reset+refunded using "Orb of Oblivion"

Notable tweaks:

  • Durability loss of equipment is significantly lower
  • Repairing items on anvil is significantly cheaper
  • Enchantment slots on items are limited, so you have to make actual choices (however due to the changes above its easy to ditch Unbreaking and Mending)
  • Hunger is lost slower, and natural health regeneration is also slower (to embrace healer/support roles)
  • Armor Attribute damage reduction is rebalanced (to hyperbolic curve), high armor points (such as from Diamond Armor set) are far less useful
  • Critical hits are chance based, vanilla jump crits are disabled (to balance damage output)

Settings:

  • Shaders are included, ComplementaryUnbound is recommended, it is compatible with spells
  • Keybinds: spell casting hotkeys are assigned modern gaming mouse, players without a 5 button mouse should reset to default the spell hotbar keybinds shown here Spell casting hotkeys

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Multiplayer
