Better Foliage Reborn

Better Foliage Reborn is a fork of Better Foliage Renewed, which is based on the original Better Foliage by Octarine Noise.

This fork preserves Renewed’s visual enhancements while restoring selected classic features, introducing new decorative effects, and expanding compatibility with other mods and resource packs.

Features

Reeds in Shallow Water

A returning feature inspired by the original Better Foliage! Decorative reeds grow visually in shallow, still water above dirt, with randomized textures and placement.

Their density is configurable. Reeds are purely visual—they do not add blocks or affect gameplay.

Snow-Covered Foliage

Bushy leaves receive snowy fluff when covered by snow. Snow overlays are combined with the active leaf textures, allowing supported custom foliage to receive the same treatment without requiring individual snowy textures.

Also supports Ecliptic Seasons: leaves that receive seasonal snow cover can display snowy fluff even without a physical snow layer above them.

Floating Cherry Petals

Cherry trees can decorate the water beneath them with floating petals.

• Randomized placement and four-quadrant petal arrangements.
• Flat, stem-free flower textures.
• Visible from both above and below the water.
• Obstacles prevent petals from appearing through covered spaces.
• Supports vanilla cherry trees and BWG’s white and yellow sakura trees.

These petals are decorative rendering, not placeable blocks.

Iris Shader Support

Reeds support vegetation waving with compatible Iris shader packs. Floating petals also support animation without being treated as water surfaces.

The appearance and availability of shader effects depend on the shader pack.

Improved Bushy-Leaf Rendering

Coordinate-based offsets and rotations keep foliage naturally varied while reducing overlapping surfaces and flickering.

Supported bushy-leaf resource-pack models, including Stay True, can retain their textures while Better Foliage manages fluff placement and culling.

Compatibility covers selected blocks and supported model formats, rather than every block or version of each mod. All included compatibility resources are bundled directly into the mod—no separate addon resource pack is required.

Installation

For Minecraft 1.21 / 1.21.1 with NeoForge.

This is a client-side visual mod. The integrations listed above are optional; those mods are not required.

Install Reborn instead of Better Foliage Renewed, not alongside it. Both use the same mod ID.
