Version 1.7.10 is still the absolute best era of modding to me, and Electrical Age is the perfect proof of that. This mod doesn't just add a generic "magic energy bar" like many others. It implements actual physics: we are talking about real Volts, Amps, and Watts! Designing generators requires genuine thought, making the whole experience incredibly immersive.

Where I had the most fun was managing the multiplayer infrastructure. I ran massive high-voltage power lines across the map to supply energy to my friends' bases far away. And since the mod's physics are unforgiving, I had to build complex transformer zones equipped with safety relays... just in case a buddy messed up and risked blowing the entire grid to pieces!

The absolute peak of this setup? Hooking the entire grid up to ComputerCraft. I placed probes on my transformers and coded a full dashboard to monitor my power plant's generation in real-time.

About

Description

ELN is a Minecraft mod offering the ability to perform large-scale in-game electrical simulations.

A better simulation

Real electrical simulation model (with resistive, inductive and capacitive effects). Behaviour similar to those of real life objects.

Multiple electrical sources

Furnaces, Solar panels, Wind turbines, Batteries, Capacitors, ...

Incredible tools

XRay scanner, flashlight, portable mining drill, ...

Interoperability

Old redstones circuits can be exploited with electrical - redstones converters.

Break the cube

Cables, sensors, actuators, alarms, etc. can be placed on each face (outer and inner) of a cube, which allows a significant reduction of the consumed space by electrical installations.

Small and big electricals consumers

From the lamps, electrical furnaces,... to the miners, transporters, ...

Night-lighting revisited

Lamps, switches, captors, ...

Game lifetime/complexity extended

A consequent list of new raw materials and items...

Electrical Age - jrddunbr's edition

Electrical Age (ELN) is a large-scale electrical engineering and automation mod for Minecraft 1.7.10.
This maintained fork includes many bugfixes, ongoing updates, and additional content while preserving the core ELN experience.

Overview

  • True electrical simulation with resistance, capacitance, current flow, and meaningful power behavior
  • Expanded shaft/mechanical systems for richer automation and machine design
  • Less rigid voltage-tier constraints, enabling more creative builds
  • Newer devices and gameplay updates beyond the original dormant upstream
  • Continued maintenance for long-term 1.7.10 worlds and modpacks

What you can build

  • Practical power systems with generators, batteries, capacitors, converters, and transmission hardware
  • Advanced factories using electric furnaces, automation blocks, and control circuitry
  • Sensor-heavy logic builds with ELN's face-based wiring and signal tools
  • Mechanical networks with shafts, clutches, motors, and flywheel-driven systems
  • Industrial monitoring with energy meters and automation-friendly interfaces including MQTT and Modbus

Compatibility and integrations

This mod works well with major 1.7.10 tech ecosystems, including:

  • OpenComputers
  • ComputerCraft
  • Railcraft
  • Buildcraft
  • Immersive Engineering
  • EnderIO
  • IndustrialCraft 2

It also supports broader fuel integrations through the ELN fuel registry. Most reasonable mod fuels are supported.

Known compatibility notes:

  • Avoid mods that forcibly rewrite block states on ELN blocks. Notably, the portable hole in Thaumcraft.
  • Optifine and Angelica are known to cause issues with Electrical Age and are not recommended.
