Description

Kaos Missions: a runner carries sealed cargo along a ruined highway toward a drop box while infected follow

The Federation does not care how you get it there. Only that it arrives.

Kaos Missions is an add-on to Kaos Hunter that posts runs on the Bounty Board's new Missions tab, paid in Kaos Credits. Five mission types share one engine: a fixed objective a long way out, a payload that makes the trip dangerous, and a fight at the end that is scheduled rather than stumbled into. Each player gets three rolled offers a day.

You are a runner. The payload takes your back slot or jams your Recall, it makes noise, and it cannot be stashed. Everything between here and there has heard you coming.

It comes with:

  • Courier: carry Sealed Cargo to a Drop Box and hold it through the uplink fight 📦
  • Salvage Op: hold a Salvage Node in a Lost City for 15 seconds under fire, then carry the Tech Core home 🔩
  • Dead Man's Intel: carry a Cipher Drive while a named Kaos Hunter mark pursues you 🏃
  • Hold the Relay: raise a mast at a city edge, dig in for five minutes, hold three waves 📡
  • Last Survivor: escort a bitten civilian home before they turn 🧍
  • Ambushes that roll while you move, a daily board, co-op helpers, a mission HUD and a Mission Broker 🎲
  • Rewards beyond credits: Schematics that craft the Field Uplink terminal, and Federation Relays 🛰

📦 Courier and the uplink fight

A survivor holds a Drop Box through its uplink as a horde, a Brute and an Elite mark close in

Take a Courier run and the Sealed Cargo goes straight onto your back while a Drop Box is placed 600 to 1200 blocks out. Walk it there. Right-click the box wearing the cargo and it arms: an Outbreak Director horde with a Brute and an Elite mark arrives, and the 90-second uplink counts down only while you stay alive within 32 blocks. Hold it and you are paid 200 ₭, plus a first-time bonus and a hazard bonus for every ambush you outlasted on the way, and the box ejects an Antenna Schematic before it detonates.

Worn payloads (Sealed Cargo, Tech Core, Relay Mast Kit) ride in Augment Protocol's gear back slot: no elytra, no Carry Pack, and the jetpack is grounded, though the parachute still works. Recall and Recall Pads are jammed while a payload is anywhere on you. The cargo pings a small noise pulse every 30 seconds, cannot go in a Carry Pack, drops at your feet if you pocket it, and self-destructs the moment its mission is not live. Die while carrying it, or leave it unheld for five minutes, and the run fails.

🔩 Salvage Op: hold it under fire

A survivor holds a glowing Salvage Node in a ruined plaza while infected and a Screamer rush in

A Salvage Node is placed inside a Lost City 400 to 900 blocks out (or at an unmarked surface site when no city is near). Right-click it and keep right-click held: 15 seconds of unbroken holding frees the Tech Core, each quarter cracking the node open with a loud noise pulse. The first hold starts fight one, a horde with a Screamer. Any hit, letting go or stepping six blocks away seals the node back to zero, so clear the pack first. Then carry the core 400 to 800 blocks to a Drop Box for fight two: a bigger horde, a Brute, a Bloater and a Legendary mark through a 120-second uplink. 450 ₭ and a Cipher Schematic.

🏃 Dead Man's Intel: outrun it or kill it

A survivor sprints with a glowing Cipher Drive while a netherite mark strides after them from a ridge

A Cipher Drive goes in your pocket (flight allowed, Recall jammed) and a Drop Box is placed 500 to 900 blocks out. Behind you, a named Kaos Hunter mark, Elite or Legendary depending on your armour, starts 250 to 350 blocks back and closes at three blocks a second while you are online. Stopping is what gets you caught. Sleeping through a night brings it 150 blocks closer. Only the Bounty Tracker augment shows it; the brief and HUD give a band: far, closing, near, on you.

The drop is a fight: the moment the drive goes in, a horde hits the box for a two-minute uplink, and with 25 seconds left the pursuer is put on you, materialising 16 to 32 blocks out whether you are indoors or not. Kill it at any point for 150 or 250 ₭. Deliver for 300 ₭ and a Cipher Schematic. Abandon this run and the same mark becomes a Kaos Hunter payback against you.

📡 Hold the Relay: dig in, then hold

Two survivors defend a glowing Relay Mast inside hasty walls against a siege of infected, a Brute and a Lasher

Carry a Relay Mast Kit to the last city chunk before open ground, 300 to 600 blocks out, and sneak-use a block to raise the mast. Then dig in for five minutes: the Outbreak Director is forced into RELAX for your cluster while you build walls, set traps and place a Carry Pack with its stations. Arm the mast early if you are ready. Then hold three waves anchored on it: a Probe (a Spitter and three packs), a Siege (a horde with a Brute and a Lasher, a quarter bigger at night) and the Break (an Elite mark). The mast's integrity drops for every infected pressing against it, five times as fast for a Brute; feed it iron ingots or Relay Mast Braces to shore it up. At zero it collapses and the run fails.

Hold it and you are paid 400 ₭ (plus 100 ₭ for a night hold) and the mast becomes a Federation Relay you own: a Missions terminal, a Recall destination inside your existing eight-slot budget, and a drop-off point for survivors. Three relays per player; a hold past the cap pays a bonus instead.

🧍 Last Survivor: get them home

A survivor crouch-walks a pale civilian through a dark street, offering bread, toward a distant Bounty Board

Somewhere in a Lost City 300 to 600 blocks out a bitten civilian is waiting. Come close and they call out; recruit them with an empty hand and a 20-minute infection clock starts. They follow you, copy your stance (crouch and they crouch, quiet and slow; sprint and they run and make noise), hide and wait if you leave them, heal only out of combat and from food you hand them, and draw every zombie's attention. Below twelve minutes they cough; below five they stagger. A Vaccine Injector stops the clock for good; Penicillin buys five minutes, once. Walk them within four blocks of any Bounty Board, Federation Relay or Field Uplink for 350 ₭, plus 75 ₭ if you cured them. If they turn, the run fails.

🎲 The shared engine

  • Daily board: three rolled offers per player per day, at least one a carry run, each type with its own daily stock, nothing refreshing before dawn. Open the Missions tab on any Bounty Board, or a Field Uplink or Federation Relay.
  • Detail pages and HUD: a site map with distance rings, what the run asks and what fails it, Accept and Abandon, and a top-right mission plate showing state, bearing, the clock that matters, the pursuer band, expiry and pay. Mission endings show a full-screen title with the payout or the reason.
  • One engagement per player: a mission, a Kaos Hunter contract or a payback, never two.
  • Ambushes: while you travel under open sky, outside domes and more than 96 blocks from the objective, a roll every two and a half minutes of distance moved: 55% a horde, 25% a one-off mark, 20% nothing. Each one outlasted banks a 25 ₭ hazard bonus. Camping earns nothing but the expiry clock.
  • Helpers: use your Mission Brief on a friend within 32 blocks. Helpers within 64 blocks at completion are paid the base reward.
  • Clean world: every mission block removes itself when its run ends, however it ends, loaded or not. Payloads self-destruct with their mission. No chest hoarding, no litter.
  • Mission Broker: Decoy Beacons that pull the next horde onto a spot you choose, a Signal Jammer that stalls a pursuer for a minute, Route Intel for the box's exact coordinates, Relay Mast Braces, a Safehouse Tip to the nearest city centre, and a Schematic backstop. Never guns, ammo, parts, armour or medical items.

Three Schematics (Antenna, Cipher, Power) plus iron, redstone, an ender pearl and a copper block craft the Field Uplink: a wall terminal that opens the Missions panel anywhere. Access, not stats.

🛠 Commands and config

  • /fokmissions (operators): inspect, place, advance and end runs, and locate objectives.
  • world/serverconfig/fok_kaos_missions-server.toml: distance bands, uplink and hold timers, fight sizes handed to the Director, ambush interval and odds, payouts and bonuses, daily offers and stock, expiry days, the survivor clock, relay integrity, and fallbackWithoutOutbreak.

Part of Federation Of Kaos

Kaos Missions is the second half of the work loop in the Federation Of Kaos modpack, a post-apocalypse survival shooter. It lives on Kaos Hunter's board and borrows its marks, pays through Credits, uses Augment Protocol's back slot and flight and Recall locks to make a payload cost something, and hands its fights to Outbreak Protocol's Director. Each build role is the answer to at least one mission and locked out of another. Missions are optional offers; nothing else in the pack gates on them. You are welcome to include it in your modpack.
