In my opinion, this mod is fantastic; it's super complete, like almost all of Alex's mods, really. The dragons are really cool, although a pain in the ass. The nagas are too easy, but it's still fun. Overall, it's a great mod that's a lot of fun.

In short terms, here be dragons, in longer terms, here be dragons, and cyclops, and hydras, and fairies, and sea serpents, and mermaids, and just about that.

The strong point of this mod is that it adds bunch of creature to fight and gain loots from. The weak point of this mod is that it requires you to find such creature or meet them in an unprepared situation and die miserably before you actually learn how to prepare for each and actually capitalize on the gains.

The mod has some good interactions and features, such as taming those mobs (especially the dragon), giving them armor, growing them to maximum size, or stunting their growth so they'd stay small forever. But with that being said, it does also take a lot of effort before you actually reach any of that and the mod itself is pretty much just a baseplate that requires a more built world before it can really run, such that this mod works best in a modpack rather than standalone.

With that being said, this mod is still beautifully good. There are varieties to the challenge from the different types of dragons despite a majority of them are damage sponges that drops once you have a decently decent bow and sufficient distance to snipe things out. And varieties of rewards that are mostly tied to the mobs and their drops.

Overall good mod, can still be improved though.

Overview

Now as many problems with this mod as I have, I've got to admit it remains one of the best Medieval Fantasy and Mythology mods that has ever been created, with a selection of mobs that few mods to this day have been able to rival and probably still the best tameable dragons in modding.

Only in the last year or so have mods like Bosses Rise started to overshadow it in what I can only call "Dragon Quality". The ingame guide and method for unlocking entrys is interesting and immersive and encourages both exploration and interaction with the various gameplay loops in the mod.

This is now where issues start to crop up as they can be found in most aspects of the mod, The largest in my opinion is the graphics as extremely outdated in today's standard, the models and textures are poor in comparison to more modern mod releases. This wouldn't be too bad if not for the fact that the models are hard coded and the community is very limited in what they can do when it comes to resource packs and other such systems.

Another problem is the quality of the core feature of this mod, Dragon. While overall the function well they have always felt extremely difficult to use smoothly, Flight and combat using the dragons always feels like the game is fighting back.

I have a lot of hope for Ice and Fire 2 which is currently in development, having seen some of the early development for this mod it should fix the vast majority of issues the exist in the current versions of Ice and Fire and may once again rise from the ashes to be the top Dragon mod out there.

I'd recomend to play this togeather with: (Anchient_Warfare_2_TWEAKED) and (Spartan_Warfare) for the best experience

Like for real.... if you ever get tired of vanilla and it's laughable lack of dragon variety. Then this mod is for you I swear. And be prepared to be totally bamboozled as a ropey. (This is one major reason why I'd recomend Anchient Warfare due to it having settlements that are capable of withstanding/ having ur back if you ever fuck upp)

This is honestly the best dragon mod currently available for MC (Wyrmroost is a close second, but it doesn't really add proper dragon bosses in the way you'd expect from an epic fantasy). The models are great, and the combat is interesting (dragons have multiple attack movesets). Past mods have attempted and failed to add proper dragons to the game. But I&F? It's honestly scary meeting one when you're low level. I&F isn't the most stable mod, especially on older versions, but it's not bad enough to be game breaking. Just a little laggy.
Just remember to reduce dragon detection range or significantly reduce dragon den spawn rates, because those mother effers will tunnel to the surface and cross heaven and hell to chase your but down and roast it alive.

THIS MOD REQUIRES LLIB 1.7.4 OR NEWER FOR 1.10.2

For hundreds of years, Dragons have roamed the lands of the Known World. They are not simply pests and menaces, but the main cause of the loss of many lives. Only a brave few can slay a dragon. Even less can tame one.

Welcome, to Ice and Fire.

Ice and Fire is a mod created by both Raptorfarian and Alexthe666, which hopes to add dragons in a proper way. Currently, Dragons have two types: Ice and Fire. Fire Dragons breathe fire and roam most of the habitable world, whilst Ice Dragons inhabit the coldest places known to man and freeze their prey to death. Both kinds of dragons spawn naturally as adults. And news has reached us of a new discovery: Lightning dragons, powerful nocturnal creatures that deal blasting bolts of lighting to kill their prey.

In 1.2.0, Hippogryphs, Gorgons, and Pixies have been added.

In 1.3.0, Dragons were redone and Cyclopes have been added.

In 1.4.0, Sirens, Hippocampi, and Death worms have been added.

In 1.5.0, Cockatrices, Stymphalian Birds, and Trolls have been added.

In 1.6.0, Myrmex have been added.

In 1.7.0, Amphitheres and Sea Serpents have been added.

In 1.8.0, Dragons were redone and support was added for many other mods.

In 1.9.0, Dread Liches and Hydras have been added.

In 2.0.0, Lightning dragons have been added.

In 2.1.0, Ghosts have been added.

We plan on including additional mythical creatures. For further details check out our discord (for more up to date previews)

Ice and Fire aims to bring to you a revolutionary dragon experience.
We allow role players and mod pack makers to have access to all
the basic and advanced needs of a dragon hunter and tamer role. These
include:

Dragon skeletons - these can be found in desert biomes and can be used to collect a few bones

Dragon roosts and caverns - where you can fight dragons and find grand treasures

Dragon eggs - which can be found in dragon caves

Dragon taming and riding - mount up your tamed dragons and even armour them

Dragon equipment - craft tools and weapons from dragon bones and armours from dragon scales

Bestiary - for collecting and learning information with regards to dragons
In additional updates we will invest time in other mythical monsters and creatures.

Ice and Fire also provides custom support for the following other mods:

-Just Enough Items (JEI)

-TheOneProbe

-HWYLA

-Thaumcraft

-CraftTweaker(see the documentation here)

-Tinker's Construct
