Description
[O.S] Elites - Monster Affixes
Not every zombie is just a zombie. Monsters sometimes spawn as Veterans, Elites or Overlords: bigger, tougher and with random abilities. One sets you on fire, another teleports behind your back, a third drags you to itself with a chain. And when an Overlord is near, you will feel it before you see it.

Ranks
| Rank | Abilities | Health | Damage | Size | Extra |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Veteran | 1 | ×2 | ×1.3 | +10% | |
| Elite | 2 | ×3.5 | ×1.6 | +20% | +2 armor, a glowing aura |
| Overlord | 3 | ×6 | ×2 | +35% | +4 armor, harder to knock back, its own name, a monstrous model and a boss bar |
Above every elite you see its rank and abilities, so you always know what you are up against.
Overlords
Overlord zombies, skeletons, spiders and endermen don't just get bigger. They become different monsters:
- Rotting Colossus (zombies, husks, drowned): a hulking corpse in dark plates with glowing green sores.
- Bone Colossus (skeletons, strays, bogged, wither skeletons): a tall skeleton in red-black armor with a crown of spikes.
- The Matriarch (spiders): a huge spider with long legs and a cluster of red eyes.
- Void Wraith (endermen): a tall figure of shadow with purple cracks.
Every Overlord has a name like Velkar the Mourner or Gorm the Laughing.
Dread
When a strong elite is near, the fog closes in, the screen edges darken red in time with a heartbeat, and something whispers. The first time you see an Overlord the music stops and its name appears on screen. You will know when to run.

Abilities
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Fiery | Immune to fire. Its hits set you on fire. |
| Frozen | Slows everyone close to it and freezes you with every hit. |
| Vampiric | Heals for half the damage it deals. |
| Blinking | Teleports behind you every few seconds. |
| Shielded | Raises a shield that absorbs damage. |
| Volatile | Explodes when it dies. Blocks are not damaged. |
| Summoner | Calls two allies of its kind into the fight. |
| Swift | Runs and jumps much faster. |
| Juggernaut | Heavy armor, can't be knocked back, a little slower. |
| Venomous | Its hits poison you. |
| Stormcaller | Marks the ground under you with sparks, then strikes it with lightning. Step out of the ring! |
| Thorned | Returns part of the damage you deal to it. |
| Regenerating | Heals quickly when it hasn't been hit for a while. |
| Withering | Withers everyone standing close to it. |
| Magnetic | Pulls nearby players toward itself. |
| Brutal | Hits harder and knocks you far back. |
| Shadow | Vanishes for a few seconds. Its next hit from the shadows deals extra damage. |
| Reflecting | Sends half of the arrows and other projectiles back. |
| Enraged | Below a third of its health it becomes faster and stronger. |
| Mirage (new) | Creates two copies of itself and swaps places with one. Copies deal no damage and vanish after one hit. |
| Glacial (new) | Raises ice walls around you, open only on its side. |
| Thief (new) | Its hits steal one of your good effects, or your food if you have none. |
| Hook (new) | After a short warning it throws a chain and drags you to itself. |

Champions of the land
Elites in harsh lands can become champions: 25% more health and an ability that fits the place.
| Champion | Where | Ability |
|---|---|---|
| of the Frost | snowy and icy biomes | Glacial |
| of the Sands | deserts and badlands | Fiery |
| of the Mire | swamps and jungles | Venomous |
| of the Peaks | mountains | Stormcaller |
| of the Gloom | dark forests and other spooky biomes | Shadow |
| of the Deep | oceans and caves | Hook |
| of Ash | the Nether | Fiery |
| of the Void | the End | Mirage |

Nemesis
An elite that kills a player doesn't despawn. It takes a name, grows stronger and is announced in chat with its coordinates. Every new victim makes it tougher, and its loot richer. Hunt it down and avenge everyone it killed.
Blood Moon
Some nights the sky turns red. Elites spawn everywhere, strong ranks become as common as at the edge of the world, and every elite gives 50% more experience. It starts from day 5 and happens on about one night in fourteen.
Bestiary

A book that records every elite you kill by kind and rank, the abilities you have seen and the nemeses you have avenged. The better you know a kind of foe, the harder you hit its elites: up to +15% damage after 50 kills. Craft it from a book, a bone, rotten flesh, a spider eye and gunpowder.
Chapters and trophies

Filling in the book is rewarded. The Trophies tab has three chapters: foe pages (a page is filled when you know a kind of foe to the last level), abilities seen and nemeses avenged. Every milestone gives a one-time reward — gear from [O.S] Loot if you have it, diamonds, netherite, totems and golden apples if not — and a lasting blessing: more health, more damage to elites, less damage from them. Every filled foe page also gives that foe's trophy: its head where it has one, and a piece of epic gear.
| Chapter | Milestones | Blessings in total |
|---|---|---|
| Foe pages | 1, 3, 6 and 10 pages | +4 hearts, +15% damage to elites, −5% damage from elites |
| Abilities | 10, half, all | +1 heart, −15% damage from elites |
| Nemeses | 1 and 5 slain | +1 heart, +5% damage to elites |
Where they spawn
- Any common monster can become an elite: zombies, skeletons, spiders, creepers, endermen, witches, illagers, piglins, blazes, breezes and more.
- The farther you go from the world spawn, the more often elites appear and the higher their ranks. Near the spawn there are none at all, so new players get a calm start.
- The Nether and the End are more dangerous than the Overworld.
- Monsters from spawners don't become elites by default, so mob farms keep working as before.
Rewards

- Experience: ×2 for Veterans, ×4 for Elites, ×8 for Overlords.
- Bonus loot from a loot table for each rank: emeralds, gold, diamonds, golden apples, enchanted books, and rarely a Totem of Undying from Overlords.
- Minions and Mirage copies give nothing, so they can't be farmed.
Works with other O.S mods
- [O.S] Loot: elites drop gear with a rarity. Veterans sometimes drop rare gear, Elites often drop epic gear, Overlords always drop legendary gear and sometimes a unique item or a set piece. A nemesis drops an extra piece for every player it killed.
- [O.S] Dungeons: some dungeon monsters spawn as Veterans or Elites, and the key keeper becomes an Elite.
- [O.S] Races and Classes: killing an elite gives class experience.
All of them are optional. O.S Elites works fine on its own.
For servers and modpacks
- Data-driven. Every ability is a JSON file in a datapack: change how often it rolls, the lowest rank that can get it, its strength, and which monsters can or can't get it.
- Entity tags decide which monsters can become elites and which ones get each Overlord model.
- Bonus loot comes from normal loot tables, one per rank, so you can replace them.
- Common config: spawn chance, distance scaling, safe zone, rank odds, Nether and End multipliers, dimension blacklist, spawners, health, damage, size and armor of each rank, champions, blood moon chance and first day, nemesis, boss bar, experience, O.S Loot gear and unique chances, Races and Classes experience.
- Client config: name plates, aura particles, glowing auras, Overlord models, dread (fog, vignette, heartbeat), dread sounds, Overlord intros, red sky.
- Commands (operators):
/oselites summon <entity> <rank> [abilities],/oselites make <targets> <rank> [abilities],/oselites clear <targets>,/oselites chance,/oselites champion <targets> <land>,/oselites bloodmoon start|stop,/oselites bestiary reset <players>. - Works on dedicated servers. Install it on both the client and the server.
- Fully translated into English and Russian.
