Description

[O.S] Loot - Rarities & Affixes

Every sword, bow and chestplate can be worth keeping. Weapons, tools and armor come in five rarities and roll random affixes: life steal, lightning, fire, frost, extra damage, dodge, faster mining and 40 more. On top of that there are unique items with effects and 3D models of their own, armor sets, runes for sockets and a Reforging Table to fix the one affix you don't like.

Loot beams and on-hit effects

How it works

Weapons, tools, armor and shields get a rarity when you find them in a chest, take them from a monster or craft them. The higher the rarity, the more affixes the item has and the stronger they roll.

Rarity Affixes Notes
Common 0 Plain vanilla item
Uncommon 1 Green
Rare 2 Blue, gets a loot beam
Epic 3 Purple, sparkles and a chime when it drops
Legendary 4 Gold, the strongest values and legendary-only affixes
Unique fixed Its own name, lore and a special effect
Set fixed Part of an armor set with bonuses for 2 and 4 pieces

The item's name tells you what it is about: Diamond Sword of Thunder, Iron Boots of the Wind, Bow of the Vampire. The name and the tooltip border take the rarity color.

Affixes

Item What can roll
Melee weapons damage, attack speed, reach, knockback, sweep damage, life steal, fire, poison, frost, wither, lightning, critical strikes, extra damage to weak targets, bane of undead, arthropods or illagers, healing and bonus experience on kill
Bows and crossbows projectile damage and every on-hit effect above
Tools mining speed, a chance to double ore drops, reach, luck, mining speed underwater
Armor and shields armor, armor toughness, max health, movement speed, knockback resistance, thorns, dodge, less damage from fire, projectiles, explosions and falls, safe fall distance, jump strength, step height, underwater breath

One weapon gets at most one elemental effect and one damage bonus, so every roll stays readable.

All sets in 3D

The tooltip shows how many pieces you wear. Hold Shift to list the whole set.

The founders' sets

The founders' sets

Two sets in honour of the founders of Obmorok Studio. They never drop at random: the Regalia of the Crimson King only comes from Weiss_Homura, the Crimson King, and the Vestments of Bishop Clement only from Bishop Clement, the bosses of [O.S] Dungeons. Each kill has a 50% chance to drop a piece, and a piece you don't have yet comes first.

Sets and uniques

Uniques and set pieces are rare. They come from bosses, chests in ancient cities, end cities and other big structures, and Overlords of [O.S] Elites and Heroic and Mythic+ bosses of [O.S] Dungeons.

Reforging Table

Reforging Table

Put a piece of gear on the table and click the affix you want to change. The table offers three replacements: pick one. It costs a Reforging Stone and a few levels, and the other affixes stay as they are.

The table also does two more things:

  • Salvage: break gear down into Arcane Dust. Rarer gear gives more dust.
  • Remove runes: take the runes out of the sockets and get them back.

Craft the table from a smithing table, two iron ingots, an amethyst shard and three polished deepslate.

Sockets and runes

Runes

Gear can have up to two empty sockets: rare gear always has one, legendary has two. Hold the gear in one hand and a rune in the other, then right-click. Each rune gives a different bonus in a weapon, in armor and in a tool.

Rune Weapon Armor Tool
Fury damage thorns mining speed
Vigor healing on kill max health luck
Swiftness attack speed movement speed mining speed
Warding damage to the undead armor block reach
Flame sets on fire less fire damage double ore drops
Frost slows less projectile damage mining speed underwater
Venom poisons less explosion damage luck
Insight bonus experience bonus experience double ore drops

Runes drop rarely from monsters, or craft them from 4 Arcane Dust, an amethyst shard and a themed item (a blaze rod for Flame, blue ice for Frost and so on).

Where loot comes from

  • Chests give the best odds.
  • Monsters spawn with rolled gear and really use it. A zombie with a sword of flame will set you on fire. Their epic and legendary gear drops much more often than normal gear.
  • Any monster killed by a player has a small chance to drop a bonus piece of rolled gear, a rune or Arcane Dust.
  • Bosses (Ender Dragon, Wither and anything in the c:bosses tag) drop two epic or legendary items, an Ascension Shard, Reforging Stones, and often a unique or set piece.
  • Crafted gear is usually common, but sometimes you get lucky.

Improving your gear

Ascension Shard

Item What it does How to get it
Reforging Stone In your other hand: rerolls all affixes. At the Reforging Table: pays for changing one affix. Craft 2 from 4 amethyst shards, 4 lapis lazuli and an iron ingot, or 1 from 3 Arcane Dust and an iron ingot. Rare monster drop.
Ascension Shard Raises the rarity by one step and adds a new affix. The old affixes stay. Craft from 4 emeralds, 4 gold ingots and a diamond, or from 8 Arcane Dust and a diamond. Bosses, very rare monster drop.
Arcane Dust Material for runes, stones and shards Salvage gear, rare monster drop

Works with other O.S mods

  • [O.S] Races and Classes 2.2+: eight more affixes for spell power, max mana, mana per second, ability cooldowns, mana per hit, class experience, healing power and pet strength.
  • [O.S] Elites: elite monsters drop rare, epic or legendary gear, and Overlords can drop uniques and set pieces.
  • [O.S] Dungeons: dungeon bosses give epic and legendary gear, Heroic and Mythic+ bosses can give uniques and set pieces, and the founders' bosses drop their own sets.

All of them are optional. O.S Loot works fine on its own.

For servers and modpacks

  • Data-driven. Affixes, uniques and sets are JSON files in a datapack. Add your own, change the numbers or remove the ones you don't like. Modded attributes and modded items work too. A unique can be tied to one monster, so only that monster drops it.
  • Item tags decide which items can roll, so modded weapons and armor are easy to add. There is also a blacklist tag.
  • Common config: rarity odds for every source, drop chances for uniques, runes and dust, boss drops, caps for dodge, resistance and life steal.
  • Client config: loot beams, beam height and minimum rarity, sparkles, drop chime, tooltip borders.
  • Commands (operators): /osloot roll <rarity>, /osloot ascend, /osloot clear, /osloot give <players> <rarity> [item], /osloot unique <players> <id>, /osloot set <players> <set>.
  • API for other mods, no compile-time dependency needed.
  • Works on dedicated servers. Install it on both the client and the server.
  • Fully translated into English and Russian.
