Description
🌳 OriginsX - Skill Tree
Unlock your race's true potential, node by node.
⚠️ Requires Race API, OriginsX, and LDLib2 ⚠️
📖 Overview
Skill Tree adds a fully datapack-driven progression layer on top of your race. Every power your race grants can now be gated behind an unlockable node: locked powers simply do not work until you invest Skill Shards into them, and each upgrade tier makes them stronger — reaching their full, intended strength at Tier III.
Trees are defined per race in plain JSON and support prerequisites between nodes, custom costs, icons, and free-form canvas positioning. Best of all, there is a built-in visual editor, allowing you to design trees for your own races without ever touching a text editor!
✨ Features
-
Per-Race Skill Trees: Every race can have its own unique progression tree. (Powers without a designated node continue to work normally).
-
Three Upgrade Tiers: Tier I = 34% strength, Tier II = 67%, Tier III = 100% full power.
-
Skill Shard Currency: A brand-new craftable item used exclusively to unlock and upgrade nodes.
-
Node Prerequisites: Chain nodes together! A node will only unlock when its parent nodes reach Tier III.
-
Smart Power Scaling: Damage, durations, radii, cooldowns, and more scale numerically. The structural parts of a power are never touched, meaning third-party powers degrade gracefully instead of breaking.
-
Visual Tree Editor: Drag and drop nodes on a free-form canvas, right-click to add/link/delete, pick powers directly from a dropdown, and export directly as a datapack (in singleplayer).
-
Live Detail Panel: Shows the current vs. next-tier effect (e.g., "Now: +2 Max Health → Next: +4 Max Health"), upgrade costs, and affordability status.
-
Server-Synced Progress: Your progression is stored safely server-side, survives relogs, and fully supports multiplayer.
-
Localization Ready: Available in English, Russian, and Ukrainian.
⚙️ How It Works
-
Press K (configurable) to open the Skill Tree screen.
-
Select any node to view its name, description, current active effect, and upgrade cost.
-
Click the Shard Button to purchase the next tier. Shards are automatically consumed from your inventory.
-
The change applies instantly! The power's gameplay hooks will immediately run at the new strength level.
| Tier | Power Strength |
| 🔒 Locked | 0% — The power is completely disabled. |
| 🥉 Tier I | 34% |
| 🥈 Tier II | 67% |
| 🥇 Tier III | 100% — Full original power unlocked. |
💎 Skill Shards
The primary currency for all upgrades. You can craft them using Gold Nuggets around an Amethyst Shard:
Recipe: 8× Gold Nugget + 1× Amethyst Shard → 1× Skill Shard
Note: Your current shard count is always displayed in the header of the Skill Tree screen.
🛠️ For Modpack & Datapack Makers
You can add a tree for any race by placing a simple JSON file in data/<namespace>/skilltree/:
{
"race": "yournamespace:yourrace",
"title": "tree.yournamespace.yourrace",
"nodes": [
{
"id": "example_node",
"index": 0,
"power": {
"type": "attribute",
"operation": "add_value",
"attribute": "minecraft:generic.max_health",
"amount": 4
},
"icon": "minecraft:apple",
"x": 120,
"y": 80,
"requires": [],
"cost": [2, 3, 5]
}
]
}
JSON Properties:
-
race— Which race this tree belongs to (the first tree registered for a race takes priority). -
index— The position of the gated power in the race'spowersarray. -
power— The full inline power definition (uses the exact same schema as Race API). This is used to automatically generate the weaker tier copies. -
icon— The item ID displayed on the visual node. -
x/y— The exact pixel coordinates on the editor canvas. -
requires— An array of node IDs that must reach Tier III before this node can be unlocked. -
cost— The shard prices for Tiers I, II, and III respectively.
Or skip the JSON entirely!
Simply open the Skill Tree in-game in a singleplayer world, build it visually using the drag-and-drop editor, and press Save. The file will automatically be written straight into your world's datapack folder.
📥 Requirements
-
Minecraft: 26.2 with NeoForge
-
Race API: Required (Core library)
-
LDLib2: Required (GUI framework)
-
OriginsX: Required (The mod might technically launch without it, but it will be completely useless. OriginsX provides the actual races and integrates the tree editor directly into the Race Creator).
