Description

The Shooting Star: SS-21 Quasar

Made with AI: Claude Sonnet 5.5 (Anthropic)

An unofficial add-on for The Shooting Star that adds SS-21, a galactic-scale strike with a cinematic that starts outside the galaxy.

SS-21 appears on the Stellar Remote next to the stock skills. Aim, press Q (rebindable in Controls), and the camera leaves the planet for the edge of the Milky Way.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11 or 26.3
  • Fabric Loader + Fabric API, or Forge (1.20.1 / 1.21.1)
  • Java 17+ (Java 25 for Minecraft 26.3)
  • The Shooting Star (Demo) 1.4.3 by rimuru_dev: required. This add-on does nothing without it.

The cinematic

  • Opening: a third-person shot of you pressing the Stellar Remote, the way the original skills start. The remote animates as you press it.
  • Outside the galaxy: a full spiral galaxy turns in the void, then the camera dives to the supermassive black hole at its heart.
  • Ignition: twin relativistic jets fire, with a shockwave rolling across the galactic disc.
  • Flight: the jet swings toward the Sun and the stars stretch into hyperspace.
  • Arrival: Earth appears, rendered with The Shooting Star's own Earth textures, and the beam slams into it. A white-out cuts to your world.
  • Presentation: live telemetry, a title card, cinema bars and custom sound effects (drone, riser, ignition, hyperspace, strike, jet, burst, lock-on chirp).

The cinematic follows the base mod's cutscene options. By default it plays for the caster, while other players nearby see the strike itself; enabling cutscenes.everyone in the base mod shows the full cinematic to everyone.

The attack

  1. Mark: a galaxy-shaped sigil is drawn on the land where the crater will form, and the sky darkens.
  2. Descent: a beam falls out of the sky.
  3. Bipolar jet: at the 28-second mark a pillar of light bores through the target, from the bottom of the world up into the sky.
    • Everything inside the pillar is erased.
    • An accretion disc wheels overhead.
    • Everything within 110 blocks is dragged inward and hurt.
  4. Gamma-ray burst: at the 40-second mark the jet collapses.
    • A 72-block crater forms, with a spiral galaxy of crying obsidian and amethyst pressed into the floor.
    • A shockwave then throws and hurts everything within 240 blocks.

Safety and balance

  • Survival players must aim at least 100 blocks away, or the cast is refused.
  • Creative and spectator players are lifted clear of the danger zone.
  • The caster is never hurt by the damage waves.
  • Cooldown: 2 minutes.
  • It destroys terrain and erases entities. Try it in a test world first.

Installation

  1. Install your loader — Fabric (Loader + Fabric API), Forge, or NeoForge — for one of the supported Minecraft versions.
  2. Put The Shooting Star (1.4.3) and this add-on in your mods folder.
  3. Launch the game. SS-21 appears in the Stellar Remote's skill list, with Q as the default key.

Notes

  • This is a fan-made, unofficial add-on and is not affiliated with rimuru_dev, the author of The Shooting Star.
  • It reuses the base mod's Earth textures and shader support code at runtime and does not redistribute them.
  • It plugs into the base mod by reflection. A major update to The Shooting Star may require an update here. If that happens, SS-21 disables itself and logs an error instead of crashing.
  • The visuals use post-processing shaders. If you use shader packs or Iris, include your GPU and mod list when reporting visual problems.
