Description

YogMod

This mod adds the textures from the VoxelBox Scientific texture pack as separate blocks.

Brief Content Overview

In late 2012, the Yogscast began what would become one of their most loved series on their YouTube channel: YogLabs. This replaced the earlier mod showcases they had done over the two years before that. YogLabs was constructed using a texture pack called TheVoxelBox Scientific, which as any Yognau(gh)t knows, had some very strange texturing decisions. To show a few examples, pumpkins were retextured to look like computer monitors, redstone ore turned into circuitry, and melons became countertops. Within the scope of the YogLabs series, this didn't matter (and even became a running joke), but for someone who wanted to build their own lab using those textures on a survival world, dealing with the texture incongruency made playing the game almost impossible.

How YogMod Came To Be

When we started using Sphax PureBDcraft regularly, we started to become annoyed with the texture incongruency, but for about a year and a half, we put up with it. In late 2015, I finally decided I'd had enough of switching between the normal PureBDcraft and the edited pack for our own NosLabs, so I created a small mod that created new blocks to host the textures. This mod was originally called the NosLabs Custom Blocks mod, which was only used by us in our own packs. This remained the case through to July 2019, when I decided to make the mod publicly available. I reached out to Lewis for permission to change the name and use the textures, which he granted in a permission statement you can see at the bottom of this page. I released YogMod on CurseForge in early 2020.

Survival Compatibility Release

From 2015 to 2023, YogMod was designed simply for creative mode use, but I began receiving requests to add survival support to the mod. By October 2023, I'd become much more experienced with mod development thanks to my work on the Nosiphus Furniture Mod. I decided to rebuild the mod internally, and introduced a fully playable survival release soon thereafter.

Yogifier

To convert between a vanilla block and its YogMod equivalent, you will need to build the Yogifier. Giving it two of the same block will return two of the YogMod block, and vice versa: you can convert between the two seamlessly.

High Definition Textures

By default, YogMod ships with the low-resolution textures from TheVoxelBox Scientific. As you can see in the screenshots, however, we also have the high-definition textures available to download below. If you choose to use the high definition textures, we recommend use of the Sphax PureBDcraft resource pack alongside it. Credits for this patch are to Teutron and cineminecraft.
