Description
Welcome to GrimCo Research & Development, Recruit! You have been assigned to Department 6, where you will have been tasked with establishing a foothold and safe base on a new world. This new land is populated by massive cities, long since abandoned by those who originally made them... now ruled by unimaginable hostile forces. Once you get started, all of the resources you require are either in the Lost Cities, or hidden in the ground beneath them. Thankfully the wilderness areas of this world seem unimportant to all the nasty 'things' that occupy the cities, giving you ample safe space to get started. Good luck, Recruit!
GrimCo R&D is a modpack intentionally designed to challenge your determination for reward. The wilderness areas are safe zones, with hostile mobs only spawning below Y-Level 64, but unfortunately lacking any real resource of importance beyond Coal. All of the ores you want, all of the treasure chests and loot drops... all hide either in these Lost Cities or under them.
Important Tips:
- Make sure to use "Lost Cities" World Generation ( "level-type=lostcities" if you are setting up a server) !
- If you want an extra challenge, find a "Mann Co. Store" in a vanilla village and talk to Saxton Hale. He will have you pick either the RED or BLU team for the "Team Fortress 2" mod we are using for weapons. Once you have a team picked, all spawned mobs for the opposing team color will become hostile to you .. thus increasing the game difficulty considerably. Until you pick a team, both sides remain neutral.
- All ores other than Coal will only spawn under Lost City zones. Go to the cities and mine beneath them for the resources you need.
- All monsters only spawn in Lost City zones, or under Y-64 in the Wilderness.
- Special "Scrap Pile" drops can be obtained by killing Mobs. These can be right-clicked in order to find Loot Chest rewards, or Machine Scrap that can be repaired and turned into functional machine parts for much cheaper cost than crafting them from scratch.
- If you need early game food, try filling your inventory crafting grid with 2x2 Dirt blocks. Wheat Seeds can also be obtained from breaking grass, and turned into Wheat Juice.
