🎣 GroundZero Fishing — Advanced Fishing & Economy
Turn ordinary fishing into an interactive, rewarding experience!
GroundZero Fishing is a lightweight fishing expansion for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1, designed for both modded and hybrid Minecraft servers.
Built around Aquaculture 2, the mod introduces an interactive fishing minigame, realistic fish weights, a 50-level fishing progression system, a configurable Fisherman shop, and economy integration.
Whether you're running a survival server, RPG, or economy-based hybrid server, GroundZero Fishing adds more depth to fishing without replacing Aquaculture's existing loot system.
✨ Main Features
-
Interactive Fishing Minigame: Catch fish through a tension-based minigame instead of ordinary right-click fishing.
-
Aquaculture 2 Integration: Supports Aquaculture fishing rods, fish, loot tables, bait, and fishing mechanics.
-
Dynamic Fish Weights: Every eligible newly caught fish receives a weight that affects its value and difficulty.
-
50 Fishing Levels: Progress through fishing to unlock better bonuses and equipment.
-
Weight-Based Economy: Heavier fish can sell for more money.
-
Fisherman NPC: Spawn a permanent Fisherman villager that players can interact with.
-
Fishing Marketplace: Sell fish, purchase better fishing equipment, and view progression through a custom GUI.
-
Vault Integration: Enabled by default for economy-based hybrid servers when Vault and a compatible economy provider are available.
-
Server Configuration: Adjust minigame difficulty, fish prices, fishing equipment, and progression bonuses.
-
Optimized Multiplayer: Lightweight fishing sessions with server-side validation and smooth client-side animations.
🎮 How to Fish
-
Equip an Aquaculture 2 fishing rod.
-
Cast your fishing line into water as normal.
-
When a fish bites, the custom fishing minigame opens.
-
Press SPACE within five seconds to start.
-
Hold SPACE or the right mouse button to increase tension.
-
Release the button to decrease tension.
-
Keep the tension indicator inside the moving green zone to secure the fish.
-
Once successful, select KEEP to collect your catch or RELEASE to let it go.
Be careful! Remaining in the red danger zones for too long causes the fish to escape.
Larger and heavier fish are more difficult to catch, requiring better tension management and control.
Vanilla fishing rods continue working normally.
📈 Fishing Progression — Level 1–50
Players earn fishing experience by successfully catching fish.
As your fishing level increases, you receive additional benefits:
-
Increased fish-selling value.
-
Improved tension control during fishing.
-
Access to higher-tier fishing equipment.
-
Persistent progression across logouts, deaths, and server restarts.
Each level increases your selling bonus by 1.5%, reaching a total bonus of 73.5% at level 50.
Fishing control also improves by 0.5% per level, capped at 25%.
Natural catches award approximately 10–20 fishing XP. Selling fish does not award additional XP.
💰 Fisherman Shop & Economy
GroundZero Fishing includes a custom Fisherman marketplace accessible through a command or NPC.
Players can:
-
Sell individual stacks of eligible raw fish.
-
Sell all eligible fish directly from their inventory.
-
Purchase upgraded Aquaculture fishing rods.
-
View their fishing level and XP progress.
-
View fish weights, individual values, and their economy balance.
Both vanilla raw fish and supported Aquaculture 2 fish are accepted.
Default fish values: Approximately $500–$1,500 per fish at level 1, depending on species and weight. Higher fishing levels increase these payouts.
Default Fishing Equipment
| Equipment | Price | Required Level |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Fishing Rod | $12,000 | 1 |
| Gold Fishing Rod | $25,000 | 10 |
| Diamond Fishing Rod | $60,000 | 20 |
| Neptunium Fishing Rod | $180,000 | 40 |
Prices and required levels can be customized through the server configuration.
Vault Economy Integration
Vault integration is enabled by default when a compatible Bukkit/Spigot environment is available.
On hybrid servers, install Vault and a supported economy provider, such as Essentials economy, to enable purchases and fish sales.
The mod uses the server's existing economy rather than introducing a separate currency.
On regular Forge modded servers without Vault, the fishing minigame, fish weights, and level progression remain functional. Money-based shop transactions are unavailable without a compatible economy provider.

Server owners can configure:
-
Fishing minigame duration and difficulty.
-
Time allowed to respond to a fish bite.
-
Green-zone width and tension speed.
-
Time required to secure a fish.
-
Fish minimum and maximum selling prices.
-
Selling bonus per fishing level.
-
Available fishing equipment, prices, and level requirements.
-
Enable or disable the fishing system.
To apply default server settings to newly created worlds, use Forge's defaultconfigs directory.
Performance & Multiplayer
GroundZero Fishing is designed to keep server overhead low.
The fishing system avoids unnecessary world scans, forced chunk loading, and expensive repeated entity searches.
Fishing inputs are validated server-side, while smooth client-side interpolation keeps the minigame responsive.
The system also handles fishing cancellation, player disconnection, death, and switching fishing rods without retaining abandoned catches.
🌍 Designed for Modded & Hybrid Servers
GroundZero Fishing was originally developed for the GroundZero survival experience but is designed as an independent addon.
The mod can be used on other Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 servers without requiring the GroundZero server core.
It is especially suitable for survival, RPG, roleplay, and economy-based servers looking for an interactive fishing profession with meaningful progression.
Note: The mod has been compiled and tested through automated Forge builds. Production compatibility with individual Arclight installations, Bukkit fishing plugins, and economy setups should be verified on your server.
