Abyssal Ascent is simply a pack that tries to prove a simple concept...

How hard is it, going from the core of a planet to it's surface? and oh boy, it's really difficult, not actually very very difficult, but rather a tedious task.

As far as anything goes, i'll review them in QNA format so it's easier for y'all to see and decide

Q: How deep exactly is the pack?
A: 8 Dimensions, stacked vertically, something like a thousand blocks from the overworld surface

Q: How do you progress?
A: Get specific material from the dimension to make a pickaxe, then break an obsidian layer that separates the dimensions

Q: How fair is the modpack?
A: I'd say pretty fair. You spawn in Undergarden where you have to adapt. Overworld resource doesn't really exist except the ores. You can use spells from Iron's Spellbooks. Fight simple bosses. Get unique items that actually has it's own system that's both simple and rewarding enough. Pretty fair progression system i'd say.

Q: What are the existing problems of the pack?
A: As far as i'd like to say, it would just be the annoyance of having to set up multiple bases, going back and forth (or rather up and down lol) every single time you missed a material a few dimensions back. Certain structures or spawns can be unfair, but for a modpack like this it's a common issue. There's certainly some glitchy behavior when you're breaking dimensions, though i'd say it's already better in the recent version compared to earlier ones, thank you dear pack dev.

Q: Would you recommend this? to both new players and modpack veterans?
A: Absolutely

I absolutely adore the concept of this Modpack. It's so novel and utilizes the immersive portals mod so well. I will admit that the lack of a dedicated combat overhaul mod can make fighting some of the bosses (particularly the cataclysm bosses) quite challenging, but utilizing the spellbooks certainly can turn the tide in your favor. I do wish there were more options for pure melee builds, but as it stands right now the magic is incredibly fun to play with.

Since this project is in Alpha, bugs are to be expected, but I didn't encounter any that completely ruined my experience. I did have to delete my server config file once, but that was easily fixed. I have a lower end computer (laptop) and had no significant trouble with running the modpack with shaders

All in all, I had an absolute blast with this Modpack. As with any Minecraft mod, it can be tedious at times, but that's generally unavoidable. I also appreciate the fact that there are no mandatory tech mods, so if youre looking for a purely fantastical experience, this is definitely the modpack for you.

Description

IF YOU WANT TO RUN AN ABYSSAL ASCENT SERVER, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND OUR OFFICIAL PARTNER KINETIC HOSTING BY CLICKING ON THE BANNER AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.

Many users report various issues with servers running abyssal ascent, unless you are tech savvy, we highly recommend using kinetic hosting with their one-click modpack installer that abyssal ascent is part of, as part of new updates we routinely test on their servers and is guaranteed to work.

In collaboration with EclipseILX, we present to you a Minecraft Modpack utilising dimension stack from immersive portals to vertically stack 8+ dimensions, and you spawn at the very bottom of this hellish world, fight your way up to return to the surface in singleplayer or in multiplayer, with proximity voice chat - where you once belonged, battling through extreme conditions and hellish creatures, can you escape the abyss?

GAMEPLAY

In this modpack, the world is effectively thousands of block deep utilising the immersive portals mod to vertically stack several dimensions ontop of one another, due to the complex nature of implementing this into a custom modpack experience this has almost never been done before, especially not at the scale abyssal ascent operates at. You spawn in the undergarden at the deepest point in the world and your ultimate goal would be to ascend through several dimensions, fighting your way through diverse biomes, mobs, bosses and strange ecosystems eventually escaping and returning to the overworld where you once belonged. In order to make this modpack cohesive with progression especially through several unrelated dimensions from different mods, a LOT of custom data and features had to be implemented, from hundreds of custom crafting recipes, custom spawn scripts, assets, custom items, loot tables from chests and entities and even some of the dimensions had to be made. Progression is not simple, you will have to fight bosses, dangerous enemies and explore biomes not meant for easy survival but if you persevere, you will eventually reach the overworld.

Features:

  • 8 (12 soon) Dimensions Stacked Vertically
  • 50+ Underground Biomes
  • Hundreds of new tools, weapons and armor
  • You spawn in the 'undergarden', the bottom-most dimension in this World
  • Several bosses to find and defeat
  • Custom crafting recipes for smooth integration of resources between mods
  • Various new resources, ores and food
  • Proximity Voice chat with real world accurate sound physics

System Requirements (For a 100+ FPS Experience on 1080p using Complimentary shaders):

  • Processor: Core i5-6700 or Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 2060 6GB or Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB

If you play without shaders, you can easily use a much lesser graphics card.

From our testing we've found that 4 gigabytes of ram allocated is very stable while running this modpack, and an over-allocation of ram (8+ gigabytes) may cause instability issues on certain systems.
