Description
You are not special.
SoulRise is a story-driven action RPG modpack. The current release is a complete Overworld Episode One where power is earned instead of handed to you.
Choose one of five classes, learn how it fights, and unlock permanent upgrades through class trials, first-time boss victories, and real campaign milestones. The world gives you a route, but it does not turn exploration into a chain of teleport markers.
Join the SoulRise Discord: talk with players, share feedback, report bugs, and follow development.
Episode One · 5 classes · 9 boss encounters (3 main + 6 optional) · ~8–12 h main route · ~15–20 h with exploration · Solo / 1–4 player co-op
Minecraft 1.20.1 · Forge 47.4.10 · Java 17 · 6 GB RAM recommended · English
Quick Start
Create a world. You receive two books:
- Current Journey — your objectives and current route.
- Before the Songs — optional history and lore.
- Press N to open the SoulRise Skill Tree and choose a class. The class root is free. You can experiment early: five free class resets are available until Ferrous Wroughtnaut is defeated.
- Complete your class trial.
- Swordsman: perform a Perfect Parry.
- Guardian: hold Guard for about five seconds, then release with Retaliation ready.
- Marksman: land a bow or crossbow hit.
- Assassin: use the SoulRise Class Ability (
Zby default) to enter Hidden. - Mage: the trial completes when Mage is selected.
- Open Current Journey again. Your first main target is Ferrous Wroughtnaut. SoulRise can issue a compass toward a validated native Wrought Chamber. Natural discovery also counts.
- Fight bosses and spend the points they unlock. Main bosses advance the campaign. Optional encounters grant extra permanent points without blocking the main route.
- Follow the recovery objectives between acts. When Current Journey asks you to return to a settlement, do it. These moments advance the story and unlock the next route.
- If you get lost, open Current Journey.
Nopens the SoulRise Skill Tree,Zis the default SoulRise Class Ability, and MMB opens the customizable KeyFlow action wheel. Other combat controls can be checked under Options → Controls.
Classes
SoulRise currently has five production classes. Each has its own combat rhythm, strengths, drawbacks, and skill tree.
- Swordsman — Parry and counterattack. Time Perfect Parry correctly and turn enemy pressure into a short offensive window.
- Guardian — Defense and retaliation. Trade speed for armor, health, Guard, knockback resistance, and retaliation windows.
- Assassin — Mobility and hidden burst. Fast, fragile, and built around Hidden, positioning, and explosive openings.
- Marksman — Ranged pressure. Mobile ranged damage with lower maximum health and boss matchups that can force adaptation.
- Mage — Spellcasting and mana growth. Build around spells, mana, and Magical Potential rather than conventional melee progression.
Choosing a class does not consume a progression point. The root is free.
Progression & Bosses
Bosses are not just loot containers in SoulRise. They are progression gates.
Permanent class-tree points come from first-time milestones, not repeat-kill farming:
- Class Trial: +1
- Ferrous Wroughtnaut: +2
- Frostmaw: +2
- Dead King: +3
- Six optional side-boss first clears: +1 each
That gives Episode One a current maximum of 14 permanent points beyond the free class root.
The main route is built so you can follow the campaign directly, while optional bosses reward players who explore and want a stronger or more complete build.
Story & Guidance
You begin as nobody. The world was saved once before by people whose names became history. When danger returns, nobody arrives to solve it for you.
SoulRise tells Episode One through quests, journals, exploration, and reactive village dialogue without requiring you to read every piece of lore.
The two books have separate jobs:
- Current Journey keeps the playable route understandable.
- Before the Songs contains the optional historical account.
Guidance can come through objectives, dialogue, compasses, map leads, settlement reactions, and environmental discovery. Important routes are signposted, but you are still free to wander away from them or challenge something earlier than intended.
Difficulty & Co-op
SoulRise supports solo play and private co-op for 2–4 players. Progression and major milestones are designed to work per player rather than assuming multiplayer is just several identical characters sharing a world.
Four combat presets are available:
- Easy: 100% enemy health, 100% enemy damage.
- Normal: 125% enemy health, 125% enemy damage.
- High: 150% enemy health, 150% enemy damage.
- Extreme: 200% enemy health, 175% enemy damage.
Normal is the intended first-playthrough balance. Difficulty can be changed later.
Episode One
The current campaign is a complete Overworld Episode One with a beginning, progression route, major encounters, and an ending.
The main route targets roughly 8–12 hours. Exploration and optional encounters can push a fuller run toward 15–20 hours.
The Nether and End are not mandatory parts of the Episode One campaign. Later scope depends on how SoulRise develops after the first episode rather than padding the first release with shallow extra dimensions.
Current files may still be marked Alpha while balance, interface polish, and edge cases are improved. The Episode One route itself is intended to be playable from beginning to end.
Custom Systems
SoulRise is configured as one campaign rather than a collection of unrelated mods.
Two custom Forge mods were written specifically for the pack:
- SoulRise Core — classes, combat mechanics, skill trees, permanent progression, difficulty systems, interfaces, and pack-specific gameplay integration.
- SoulRise Dialogues — contextual village conversations, rumors, and reactions tied to story progress and world events.
They sit alongside custom quests, balancing, journals, progression rules, integrations, and configuration built around Episode One.

Credits
SoulRise is built on the work of many Minecraft mod developers whose projects make the pack possible.
Third-party mods remain the property of their respective authors and are installed through CurseForge dependencies rather than redistributed as loose JAR files inside the SoulRise archive.
A complete dependency list is available through the CurseForge Relations tab.
