As someone who isn't a giant pokemon fan, this mod is really well made compared to other similar ones. The graphical style of Cobblemon suits Minecraft a lot more than similar mods such as pixelmon and the mod is overall pretty well polished.

What can hold it back is the fixed nature of the mod, with very little configurability, including that of the GUI which can potentially conflict with other mods. Additionally, the mod can be a bit boring when not in multiplayer, which is obviously not the intended use case but since Minecraft is a game which is often played single player I thought it would be relevant to bring up here.

Pokemon fans should definitely try this, for the casual player give it a miss if you'd like to play a larger modpack with other big mods.

Regardless of if you're into Pokemon or not, Cobblemon deserves all the praise it receives.

I don't think any mods rivalize with the level of quality this one possess. The active development, the regular updates, the community surrounding it... This is the best of what the Minecraft community has to offer; Dedicated players gathering a talented team to work on a cohesive project, including community contributions in the development and keeping it opensource so that others can create projects & addons surrounding it.
Modding at its very best.

It would take hours to write everything right about what this mod does, so all I'll say is this is what "Pokemon but in Minecraft" should be like as a concept, and beautifully executed. A perfect replica of the capture and combat system with accurate data, and game mechanics / features that fit perfectly the Minecraft gameplay that we all loves.

My only criticism comes from the fact that it's still in active development, which can be double-edged. On one hand it keeps the mod fresh with regular updates, but it also makes it a "technically" incomplete mod. I'm worried that in the long run, the team behind it keep adding more stuff to it to the point of making it feel bloated, instead of focusing on an endgoal with careful planning. To my knowledge, there is no public timeline for future updates which would help avoid this issue. Althought they've been very meticulous with the new mechanics included in bigger updates so far, and I'm confident the Cobblemon team has learned from the many mistakes of the past (Pixelmon branching out in millions of versions 👀)
From a technical standpoint, I would appreciate features that forces the player to interact more with the Cobblemon system. Stuff that already exist in addons and servers like trainer npcs, dungeons, unique items or accessories rewarded from engaging with the mod itself. As is, Cobblemon is still fundamentally Minecraft with Pokemon on top, but I feel like despite the behemoth of content added, the mod is still lacking in goals that give reasons to interact with its many systems.

I absolutely loved Pixelmon, so I was skeptical when cobblemon was announced. That was until I played BCG+

There is something extremely charming about the models, they mesh extremely well into Minecraft without having to forgo important details. The cobblemon regional versions of Pokémon are well designed, especially the different Torterra biomes. Pokémon showdown handles the battles, but catching and using items is done outside the battle UI, making it feel less separated.

What makes cobblemon stand out the most to me is the add-on ecosystem. I love mods that allow others to build on top of the the groundwork, adding "missing" features, compatibility with other mods, or even just fun new content. Cobblemon makes this extremely accessible, allowing creatives to add new pokemon via datapacks.

While I wouldn't add this to every modpack/server, I absolutely adore packs that incorporate cobblemon.

Overview

This truly is one of the most polished mods of all time, I spent 3 years as an active member of a Pixelmon community and loved my time there. In the short time I've spent on Cobblemon in comparison I've come to enjoy it so much more.

From the incredible models that fit minecraft just perfectly, the moves, the sound effects, the customisation, the pokedex.... everything is so so well made. The ride system for Cobblemon is done to a level that no mod Pokemon or not has ever done before.

I'm not sure I can even think about anything inherently negative to say about the pack, The only reason this isn't 5 stars just yet is because is still incomplete, There are a large number of Pokemon, moves, features that are still in the works. But if what we have currently is anything to go off we have a lot to look forwards to...

I love the philosophy, community, and of course the content of this project.
While it's not quite as robust as Pixelmon, or as mechanically unique as Pokecube (yet), it is the definitive Pokemon experience for Minecraft.
Of course, people love the aesthetics, and the fact the battle mechanics are a perfect 1 to 1 of showdown.

While as of the versions I played, not all the mechanics are quite there yet, the ease of integration and making add-ons is genuinely revolutionary, and without that I don't think the adoption rate would have been so high.

The craze of Cobblemon's launch is unlike anything else I've seen, huge props every single person who contributed to the amazing publicity and hype train Cobblemon almost immediately created.
The amount of big servers that popped up in just a month, the amount of pixelmon networks that started adding Cobblemon servers, or even completely switching over was truly a sight to behold, and from the bit I keep up this is still going on. Cobblemon is an instant classic, and every numbered update continues to be a major scene-wide event on par with the likes of Create, but reaching a much wider audience, enthralling those who otherwise don't have an interest in Minecraft mods, or maybe haven't even played Minecraft before.

I know personally that it was Pixelmon that convinced me to even play Minecraft, and I've seen that happen time and time again with Cobblemon and I couldn't be happier. I think a new generation of players like me who get into mc because they want a Pokemon game better than anything that'll be officially released are in great hands and will have an amazing introduction to the community via Cobblemon.
For that, this project deserves the utmost praise.

It's still not feature complete but in active development. Definitely interested in watching its future as it is actively in development. Certainly looks better than pixelmon at least.

Cobblemon looks and feels right at home in Minecraft with the monsters' cubic models. As the monster's moves are ripped from Pokemon showdown I believe they are quite balanced. The only thing negative I've found is a few missing mechanics and Pokemon but later updates will no doubt remedy this :)

Did I mention you can add your own Pokemon through datapacks?

Cobblemon is an open-source Pokémon mod for Fabric and NeoForge.

The goal of Cobblemon is to be the Pokémon mod for everyone, and to integrate much better into modpacks and Minecraft itself than other Pokémon mods. Our source code is open to encourage not only community contributions, but also forking.

Features (so far!):

  • Capture Pokémon to expand your team, battle wild Pokémon to gain experience, level up to unlock new moves, and evolve your Pokémon. There are over 700 Pokémon to catch!
  • Battles use the Pokémon Showdown! engine for accurate competitive battle mechanics.
  • Some Legends Arceus-style mechanics, such as move relearning, physically running from battle, and evolving your Pokémon when you decide.
  • Toggle free-movement during battles. You can build, mine, or fight mobs while in Pokémon battles!
  • Record the Pokémon you see and catch with a Pokédex. They come with a scanning feature to analyze wild Pokémon!
  • Explore the Minecraft world in style by riding your Pokémon!
  • You can trade and battle with your friends in multiplayer.
  • Let your Pokémon roam free wherever you want using pastures!
  • Berries which can be found in the wild, grown on farmland, mulched for bonuses, and cross-bred to mutate new berries.
  • Medicine items can be made by putting crops and berries into a brewing stand. Brewed potions heal more!
  • Ancient structures in the world to discover. Some of these structures have gilded chests, which may contain valuable loot or other surprises!
  • Fossils can be found by excavating suspicious gravel or sand at certain locations, which can then be revived using a resurrection machine.
  • All Pokémon from generations 1 to 9 can be spawned and battled with, but if they don't have a model yet then they will display as a substitute doll.
  • Support for many biome mods, including Terralith, Oh The Biomes You'll Go, and William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld. There's a growing list of others with support too!
  • Full support for custom variations and fakemon using data packs and resource packs. You can find out how to do it using our guide!
  • Cobbled Farms, a tutorial world built by our team to guide you through the features of the mod in an interactive way. It also comes with our official modpacks!
  • Support for both Fabric and NeoForge - though we recommend playing on Fabric because it has better performance!
  • ... and many more to come!

Installation

Fabric:

  • Requires the recommended Fabric Loader version for your version of Minecraft.
  • Requires Fabric API.
  • Put Fabric API and Cobblemon-Fabric in the mods folder.

NeoForge:

  • Requires the recommended NeoForge version for your version of Minecraft.
  • Requires Kotlin for Forge.
  • Put Kotlin for Forge and Cobblemon-NeoForge in the mods folder.

That's it, you're ready to go! If you have trouble installing, get help in our Discord at the link below.

Alternatively, you can download the official Cobblemon modpack on Modrinth or CurseForge! We recommend downloading the modpack with the Modrinth App, but Prism Launcher is a good alternative launcher that can download modpacks from any of these sites.

Notice: Cobblemon does NOT have an official server. You can find a list of public servers on our website, or in the #server-listings channel in our Discord, and add them to the multiplayer menu. Alternatively, you can buy your own server from hosts such as BisectHosting.

Note: The Cobblemon mod is still in development and is being actively updated. There are many features that are work-in-progress or placeholders until things are finished. There are also some existing features that will be getting more polish as we keep moving. Many more features are planned, including but not limited to things like NPCs, riding Pokémon, breeding, and structures.

Join our Discord to follow development progress, chat with the team, ask questions, and get sneak peeks into upcoming features!
