I'll preface by saying I'm writing this after completing Chapter 2, which isn't very far into progression.
As someone who doesn't really like how automation (tech) packs are done in Minecraft, the beginning of this pack managed to keep my attention for the entirety of my play session. Everything is stripped down to the bare essentials, just you and an infinite resource you have to manipulate to progress (Being a weirdo that enjoys incremental games on ROBLOX, this really entices me). You can get the first few automated parts going in just a minute or two of gameplay, which is fantastic, and all the basic components are incredibly simple and cheap to craft so you're spending your time figuring out how to actually automate things rather than tediously collecting the items needed.
If there is a point of tedium it is the power logistics. For me, the energy cables just did not do anything and I had to use machines with outputs set (manually for each block) to transfer power.

What could be a neat unnerving liminal exploration experience is utterly ruined by a plethora of zombie mobs with the aesthetic taste of a dweller.
What I feel is lost on many latecomers to the "backrooms" liminal space trend is the idea of liminality itself. Why have a monster around every corner when the whole point of the genre is the space you are in.

As for the pack itself, forgetting the theme, I chose what I thought was a more difficult start (Nod Scientist) and found a block of diamond within 20 minutes of gameplay, and did not struggle at all against the far too common enemy mobs, finding them more of a nuisance than anything.

I love to see a pack with a clear vision, and here we certainly have one. Tailored to suit the wants of a sailor, living on a boat included. Your ship is your spawn-point, your method of travel, and once youre advanced enough, even your base of operations. The pack has a unique start to the progression where your immediate goal is to build a proper ship, which I really like.
There is a strong visual identity, made up of a borderlands-esque outline to the world and an interesting font choice (although the font size is a bit small for readability).

If 2.5 is "Mixed" then that's definitely how I feel about this mod. It definitely works, just not how I'd like it. I don't understand why it is so ubiquitous beyond other map solutions just not really existing for several features here. By default (as it often appears) it is very in your face and loud when you open it the first time. The visual choices I frankly just do not mesh with (GUI, appearance of map, default settings on those, etc), and it feels slow to use. The benefit of using Journey over another map solution is that it is widely used and has compatibilities and add-ons that other maps do not, but I do not like the map itself.

If you're a loot goblin and want a pack that caters to that itching need to take anything not nailed to the floor this is exactly the sort of thing you'll like.
The progression in the new (beta) versions of the pack is/was unfinished and I hit a brick wall where new materials were time-gated (only available from enemies that spawn in hordes which spawn every 15 days ).
Interested in what the next major version looks like!

All the content of the parent pack (Sunlit Valley) with more on top (or on the side?). It feels like a joke idea to add a Pokemon mod into a Stardew Valley inspired modpack but it is my favorite way I've seen Pokemon used in Minecraft! Collecting and leveling your pocket monsters becomes a part of optimising your farm, a new method of resource collection, and an alternative money maker. What is usually a novelty on its own is actually integrated as part of other game mechanics!

I've been trained to read descriptions of mods and modpacks with a grain of salt when it comes to claims of being inspired by or based on other games and media, as I'd come to understand that in most cases this inspiration was very loose and/or weak. But when Sunlit Valley says "A Stardew Valley experience!" it means it. A currency system, important things being ticked by days, selling crops, making mayonnaise, animal affection, and the Skull Cavern?? It's wondrous how many things have been translated from Stardew into Minecraft. Everything is implemented with great care and intention, with an eye on keeping progression (which is based primarily on your money-making potential) balanced and well-paced. My favorite pack I've played.

As a casual modded experience, it's a better pick than a lot of kitchen sink packs you find featured on curseforge. It's not entirely lazy, most obviously from the wholesale retexturing of much of the game assets, but there are oversights like conflicting recipes and duplicate items from mods with overlapping purposes.
There are some attempts at fulfilling the purported Stardew Valley theme, but not so bold as to have any real impact.
