There is so much unnecessary content it jars me. Besides the fact that the challenge is almost entirely 8 different large alien mods with virtually zero coremodding to tie them together.
The amount of mechanics required is insane! I don't mind a little Create integration but that much in a modpack that's supposed to be about shooting aliens is crazy!
It takes 20 minutes to load a world and if there isn't a ton of structures in your area you're cooked. Like come on, I want to blow the Flood to bits, not knap rocks and rub sticks together for fires! You can't even break glass without a pickaxe or whatever! Give me a rock and I'll show you who DOESN'T need a pickaxe to break a window!
To their credit, this modpack did integrate Cosmic Horizons, which technically isn't playable yet. But to invest 40 something hours just to aimlessly wander in space seems a little much. I play games to have fun, not work. And with this modpack, you will be WORKING. And in the end, it's more draining than satisfying.
I don't hate the modpack. Obviously a lot of effort went into it. There are just important aspects of the pack that need attention and are being ignored.

This is my first mod pack ever, so I have no reference to base my rating, BUT:

I got hooked into the concept of space travel, naturally, I like Sci-fi.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but according to curse forge, I've put about 150 hours into this mod pack with a buddy over the course of about a month and we've finally been able to build a ship and go to space.

For a modpack about going to space and exploring, 150 hours in a survival world seems a lot, especially just to be able to reach space. Not to mention that the space part seems lack luster. I threw in the towel after we had to roll back our save numerous of times because we got randomly ejected from our ship, one or both of our games crashed, or we simply got frozen in time in the void of space due to some sort of bug(s).

Learning immersive engineering, mekanism, and create all at the same time was a lot, but I managed, and it was really fun. It seems that the game naturally progresses from the "stone age" to the "space age", which is a concept I can get behind.

The performance was atrocious, too. In addition to all the crashes: frame drops and stuttering even without shaders. I don't have the best PC, but not the worst either.

We have also noticed that different mobs spawn whether you are in a multiplayer world vs. single player world, not sure why this is the case.

We did play on hard difficulty and the early game progression wasn't too bad, just the space part was really disappointing :(

I heard the other "beyond" mod packs were better quality than this one, can't confirm that just yet...

Overall, i quite liked Beyond Cosmo, but that has more to do with the multiplayer server I was on, than the modpack itself.

Positives:

  • a modpack that includes guns
  • cool hud, camera effects
  • has custom progression through dimensions

Negatives:

  • extremely hard earlygame, to the point that if you don't miraculously find a few diamonds for a reinforcer from security craft you will not be able to progress. Your base will be constantly bombarded by smart creepers, and by that point you might as well restart. Going in blind into your first playtrough isn't really possible. With these time constraints you cant search for a good location, you have to base wherever on the mmcn server this is mitigated by having a hideout system
  • the version i had the most playtime on had some duplicate ores that you couldn't use for some recipes

Excellent progression, not that mindless annoying grinding, but not rushing everything at once, just chef kiss, also the difficulty is superb, in this one you need to get used to the guns haha, a little annoying, but once you get armor and a sword, it is quite manageable, also the loot is EXCELLENT great incentive for going into dungeons and structures, coming along with great risk which is nice, the structures are beautiful and the terrain blends pretty much seamlessly
