Listen, this review is pure nostalgia. I had a server, all of my friends were playing, we all based together, everyone had their own area and focused on different things, people were teaching each other their favorite mods.

It was bliss.

And now, that time has passed.

I have been a fan of FTB ever since they got their start way back in it's hayday. FTB has been a symbol of quality from the Direwolf packs to the classic packs like Attack of the B-team.

I am happy to say, this pack is no different.

With mods new and old I was able to problem solve and I liked how I was able to branch out. The quest book was thorough and knowing what I do now if I ever do a 2nd playthrough I know how I would go about things.

Positives:

  • Fun experience
  • Custom content was overall good
  • Includes a story that is narrated
  • Exposed me to Just Dire Things, Oritech, Nautech (this one took me way too long to sleuth out)
  • Consistent sci-fi theming

Negatives:

  • Final objective was a little much
  • I wish that loot scaling with player quests was communicated, I ignored airdrops through the whole midgame
  • Reliance on Mystical Aggriculture

This mod is fully AI-generated and it's egregious. Upon decompiling the mod, you can see that it uses the default namespace, and it has a ridiculous amount of class bloat, with 30 packages for villager behavior and on average 2-3 classes inside each package. It's laggy as well, it was admitted in the mod description that it runs at 35 ms per tick with 250 villagers, which is not good. I don't know why they are advertising this fact like it's supposed to be a good thing.

As for how it actually is in-game, it's quite lackluster. In it's (AI-generated, of course) description on modrinth, it promises lifelike villagers who hold festivals, funerals, and defend themselves from attack. This is not so much the case. The "funeral" is just one villager going to ring the bell, at least from my testing, and nothing happens during the festivals except some text on the screen saying a festival is happening. The villagers break random blocks in the village, usually making random holes in the paths that were perfectly fine. Over time the village becomes riddled with holes. It seems to be for no reason. Despite claiming that it doesn't mess with workstations, none of the unemployed villagers I found would ever take a job. The mod says trading is an "upcoming feature". So do not install this if you want to trade with villagers.
The dialogue that appears above a villager's head is often repeated/the same. You can see all their names though the walls and it's cluttered on the screen.

Overall I think anyone who actually believes the mod's description will be sorely disappointed. I am tired of Claude's mods.

BetterF3 may help some people navigate the F3 menu through colouring different items but I find the colouring just reduces contrast on many backgrounds and makes it harder on the eyes.

By far the worst part about BetterF3 is the performance, text rendering in Minecraft is already unoptimised but pulling this menu up can genuinely reduce you from playable FPS to an unplayable slideshow, especially on older machines. This is made even worse by the fact it animates sliding in and out which gets really choppy and slow at low frame rates which means it can be even harder to diagnose why your frames have dropped because it takes ages to even open the F3 menu.

One advantage of this mod is the ability to customise the F3 menu on versions before that was possible, and I have seen packs such as Raspberry Flavoured make use of it to lock coordinates behind items. This is a niche use case however.

If you really struggle to read the normal F3 screen, maybe get this, I wouldn't recommend it to the average person though.

Cherished worlds adds a feature you don't realise was missing until you need it. Being able to star worlds to make sure you can easily find them and not accidentally delete them is really useful in long term packs.

When I'm playing a long term survival world, I often find myself creating lots of testing worlds in superflat and creative to test builds or mod mechanics. When you have a lot of worlds it can be annoying to scroll down to find the one you want so being able to pin worlds is really useful here. Also, more than once I've accidentally deleted the world I want to keep when deleting all the testing worlds, which can be incredibly frustrating and it's nice this mod solves it (even if it's probably my fault that happened in the first place).

Highly recommend this mod, it's just a nice quality of life addition.

This mod is just nice, it isn't essential, I don't find myself missing it, but it is just nice. This mod can be really useful on servers to help differentiate who is speaking at a glance however.

This is a small mod that I see no reason not to use if you're playing multiplayer. Everyone should try it.
