If a mob/animal mod is BETTER than Alex's Mobs, thats a good mod.
If a mob/animal mod is WORSE than Alex's Mobs, that's a bad mod.

Alex's Mobs is the baseline. Not amazing, not terrible. While it does add some cool animals, it seems focused on quantity > quality at this point. They could work on making the config simpler, they could work on configuring the mod better so I don't have to immediately start tweaking the config, they could work on improving the current animals and textures, but they seem to be focused on adding more mobs instead.

One big problem I face is their spawn frequencies. A weird bug or mob will spawn frequently, while the more immersive and realistic mobs rarely spawn, or will spawn in weird places or in weird group sizes (too small or too big).
Of course, this is all customizable, but with 85+ mobs, it takes hours in the config just for it to more polished and more immersive. Also, the newer mobs seem to have little info online, which makes config-editing even harder.

I think if their config was better designed and more set-up from the start, I would increase my rating. The fact that I have to start tweaking a ton of config files in the big 2026 and have to think about a lot of weird new mobs with little wiki info is not great.

Before you could download 20 different mods, each adding a new group of animals, creatures, and other fauna to the game, Dr Zhark's Mo' Creatures was the option.

Despite being now ancient and outdated, this used to be the pinnacle of minecraft animal mods. It had a complex installation and setup process, but once you got it set up it could transform any minecraft world to a more immersive, more realistic world.

Highly recommend for those on older versions.

I'm on a break from the modpack, I'm currently at the start of Chapter 2.

I should mention that I'm obviously not very far in the pack, with around 20h of playtime. I always wanted to try out tech mods like gregtech but was intimidated by the sheer grind it takes and the resource management skills required to really get into it.. I believe Supersymmetry is one of the better introduction to this kind of pack. There's no grind in comparison, the quest book is satisfying and well made. The only aspect that I disllike about the modpack is the exploration aspect, while invited and even necessary on some regards it's also brutal between the dark night that forces you to wait because the bed are super hard to make for some reason, and the bandits that can one shot you if you're not ready. It makes for a frustrating experience on this regard.

I am new to the Minecraft modding scene and have not tried Refined storage or anything, but from my tens of hours of using it in my own modpack it is truly a amazing mod, i love the autocrafting and the aesthetics, it is a bit of micromanaging as usual in tech mods in the early game but i had a blast with it in the mid-game, i still haven't gotten to the late-game, i have a beefy computer and didn't notice a performance impact, even with shaders.

I enjoy using this mod, especially when paired with nutrition and or spice of life, has a wide range of ingredients and food, has integration with many mods, has tons of addons that add even more foods or ingredients, i haven't tried Pam's Harvestcraft so cannot compare it with that, it is truly a delightful mod, i have no complaints, it's a very well-designed mod that raised the standard of Minecraft modding.

This is compatible with many mods and better than optifine, vulkan mod is better but that has less mod compatibility.

If you like good progression, game balance, a cohesive theme, any form of logic or thought put into your modpacks, this is not for you.

Despite the fact that this RPG has custom mods, it still feels worse than a kitchen sink you could cook up in ten minutes. The sum of its parts are vastly inferior to the array of good mods included in it, which barely manage to salvage any reputation the pack has.

It also markets itself as an "RPG" without understanding what an RPG even is. This is a mere stat check of a modpack.

Alex's Mobs is not great, it has a lot of one note mobs with "uses" that don't really add much besides some flavor, and no ambient mobs. The mod strives to have only useful mobs but will shoehorn uses into mobs that wouldn't really need them solely to justify their existence when they're already justified. Many mobs are just vanilla thing but "better", such as almost every tame being a better wolf, the hummingbird being a better bee for crop pollination, and the Laviathan being a better strider. Most mobs don't have interesting interactions with one another or the world, so a lot fail to add much life to the game either, outside of existing at least. The art isn't very vanilla-fitting, most mobs in the mod lack the goofy stylization that vanilla mobs have, rather having more basic "accurate" proportions. There's some gems, like the catfish, but unless you need filler for a modpack, especially a zoo modpack, where the collection aspect is more important than the immersion and usefulness, I wouldn't suggest Alex's Mobs. Use a mod like Spawn instead for more interesting animals use/design-wise, or Species for more interesting fantasy creatures.

The One Probe: besides being a horrible name for a Minecraft mod, this is honestly a great mod for those complex, techy, and magic oriented modpacks. For those wanting a more vanilla+, immersive, lightweight feel, I’d look for simpler alternatives.

I know the mod is fully customizable; and I know it is in active development for modern Minecraft versions, and I know it is extremely useful, but remember the days when WAILA or TWYLA or HWYLA were the options? A simple UI, simple tooltips and info, still great customization, but it starts simple, not trying to show too much information or take up too much of the screen.

The one probe is not that mod. If you want to know exactly every detail of what you’re looking at all over the screen, this is a helpful mod. If you’re running a super complex modpack, or using lots of tech and magic and machinery and storage, this is probably a good option. If you are trying to enhance your Minecraft world or add to a vanilla+ or lightweight mod pack, I’d say to look for an alternative.
