Reviewing this as a standalone mod

The monsters are really well designed and the animations are stellar. And I love the early game when they start appearing for the first time.

But in the late game things begin to get silly. It seems the viral progression scales really drastically out of nowhere, and not like a World War Z type thing. I believe the default system needs some serious balancing. The later mobs are also unbalanced in attack damage.

Additionally I appreciate the elaborate config, but I get extremely confused trying to manage/navigate it without causing a crash. Earlier versions of this mod had simpler configs which I enjoyed.

Finally, performance goes insanely down when the biomes arrive.

I like the mod but would like more fine tuning rather than more content being added.

If you don't have Ice & Fire, it will be tough. If you don't use the guidebook, you will get lost. Shattered dimension is very much dark, would recommend bringing bright blocks with you. Final boss music f*cking ballin though.

No one is gonna read this ******* review, but first, CTE2 is not a bad pack. It's actually balanced pretty nicely and honestly I'm probably not the right demographic to be playing this pack. That being said, I was very disappointed to see Create being removed since it was the only mod what allowed some sort of automation in this pack. I honestly don't know why it was removed? Either way it was replaced by Botania and its an ok mod I guess. But the issue is that the author banned certain items; (Bore, force, damage, entropy, weight, kindle, pantslinger lens, corporea, dice of fate) Dice of fate I get, but removing bore lens (the lens that allows breaking blocks) just removes most of botania automation. I mean there's absolutely no reason to really ban it and the reason (from discord) is that it doesn't work with their chunk claim mod. (Also who uses Flan?) Like no one cares, yeah they can ban it on their server, but most people play modpacks on private servers and if someone does steal or grief they just get banned! Either way I don't really get why they use flan or why they ban it.

I don't like Minecraft Comes Alive. It's like Minecolonies but forced on to the player. Minecolonies is fine, I can avoid if I need to. But MCA just replaces all vanilla villagers and I hate it. Made a villager breeder, only to find out they need cakes? what? So instead I just started abducting them but they're so annoying. (Shut up Ester stop ******* crying and hand over those books). Please bring back normal villagers.

I couldn't build a Create iron farm so I made a vanilla iron farm, even fixing the boat/minecart issue only to find out that there's an anti mob farm mod. Like I get wanting to prevent players from leveling up from farms but removing all mob drops is kinda dumb. I felt like I wasted my time playing this pack, if you like automating stuff don't play it, its purely just a boss killing rpg pack.

Small nitpick, but Joy of painting should be replaced with immersive painting. They do the same thing but you can upload images(memes). Also the MIMI mod kinda sucks, Immersive Melodies does the same thing but already has songs in it and is way better imo.
(No hate to the author, it's good to see packs with a lot of effort out into it. Just hoping something other than botania gets added tbh. Add back create? It goes well with botania)

First of all, I've played some modpacks and made some myself and I can definitely tell that this modpack is crafted with passion. It rewards exploration but it also necessary to upgrade your base due to the horde nights. Almost every item has its recipes tweaked to better match the modpack as a whole. It is on the more difficult side but it can be toned down.

But do keep in mind, due to the use of custom lost cities with entity blocks, the generation of lost cities it self, the amount of spawners on said cities, and minecraft's own unoptimized code, it is a bit heavy on your PC

All in all really good modpack. Really looking forward to its next update.

I'm a modern guy. I usually run away from modpacks that are 1.17 and less, much less 1.12.
I decided to give it a try after being pestered by a friend, and oh boy. When I woke up again, I had built a biblically accurate ME controller, was deep into chapter 3, my sleep schedule was hanging by a thread, and two and a half weeks had passed without me even noticing.

It is, in a word, incredible. Especially if you follow the Java 22 guide, it loads in practically 3-4 minutes, and runs at a steady high fps (around 100) with little to no issue.
It is important to note that you should host a server for this. It is not kind to the space on your computer, and I am pretty sure something will burn if singleplayer is attempted with a sufficiently old pc. I managed to finagle Java 22 onto the server as well, and have had steady 18-20 TPS with 4-6 active players at the same time being absolute bafoons. For 3-4 people, having a 20GB RAM / Ryzen 7 CPU server was fine, but as we advanced and got more players I switched to 30GB and Ryzen 9. Haven't had problems since.

The pack is hard, yes, but it is also unforgettable (and really satisfying). I remember early game was quite terrorizing, and my friend fell into limbo and had his own little existential horror show while I was making donuts to not die of hunger. Fun times~
And don't get me started about the dragons! Man, they are something else. We hunted for a spot where there were none, built a base, and when we finally settled in and got a pet lizard, one erupted from under the earth. It was quite traumatic (and funny) (We then exterminated all dragons in a two mile radius out of that fear). Point is, it keeps ya on your toes. Never, ever forget to do a dragon-check. They could be anywhere. There could be a dragon, right NOW, salivating over you while you are reading this. Beware.

  • Screenshot 1: I did not expect a 1.12.2 pack to captivate me so

Overall the modpack is nice, very immersive, with awesome shaders making it kino experience. The pack is very rewarding for exploring which is risky, but gives the player access to otherwise hardly obtainable tech. Kudos to the creators for making Refined Storage easily obtainable in this way, while not giving up the whole tech, but just the necessities. There are some issues me and my friends encountered along the way:

  • The difficulty was not linearly going up, but in rather big surprise leaps. You get used to some level of horde and suddenly you have boomer making pile of rubbish out of your base. And then next, and next...
  • When raiding some more difficult structures with my friends, the enemy count jumped so high, that our FPS dropped from 144 to 20-30, adding yet another level of difficulty.
  • Very unfortunate that Immersive Engineering and the car mod requires command block to be properly spawned, as on our server we encountered quite a lot of command blocks and hammers just lying around. (I didn't see any command blocks in single player though)
  • My last issue is with story, so it's going to be spoiler. The endgame was just anticlimactic. You build you base, making it stronger, taking on stronger and stronger foes, developing a cure that could save the world, and it's just an instant weakness with golden apple (that you don't even have to craft as there's plenty of it all around the world). And The Abyss is only good for obtaining of the brain, as all of the resources that are there are useless as you've already reached the end of the game. It's such a shame, especially considering how cool the laboratory and military bases are.

My (and my friends as we concluded this together) overall rating would be 3.5/5. It was nice experience, just enough in playtime to satisfy our Christmas tradition.
Closing note, I haven't played other zombie modpacks, so I can't really compare it to others, so take this info into account as well.
Playtime: 190 ingame days ~ 60h (3 people on the server, 190 is average)

I liked the pack conceptually, but the grindyness of the earlygame took away from a lot of the fun of it.

For the mage class, the only way to get magic XP from the start of the game is from mining a specific ore before you can unlock any sort of way to cast spells, forcing you to use melee weapons and such. Other classes seem to make leveling and unlocking items more fun, but regardless there are many other skills (e.g. woodcutting, mining) which will require a good amount of time to level before you can unlock important items.

Regardless, if you are looking for an adventure pack and enjoy a slower, grindier experience, then you will likely enjoy RAD2.
